I think this is among one of the most amazing and weird places on our planet. But please take your time when you go through the area, I saw so many people who walked like they were about to miss a train or something and they failed to see so many things and details of this outstanding place. The drive to get there is also fantastic with breathtaking views.

A 20-minute drive from Cuenca through gorgeous mountains, this park comprised of geological formations is excellent for a one-hour hike through well maintained path, or much longer if you are the type that prefers to explore and picnic. For a small fee you enter the park and are given a map that takes you in a long one-way loop where you can spend as much or as little time as you prefer. You are permitted to climb the fomartions and leave the path, so it is really an exciting place for those of us that really like to explore.

There are thousands upon thousands of rock formations, but a handful are considered special because of their resemblance to other things ie: “The Lovers” “The Ships” The Fight Between the Elephant and The Crocodile”. These special formations are highlighted in the paper map given at the ticket booth and also in the signs along the path pointing them out, along with their stories. The formations were carved by water standing on top of the limestone and eating away at the rock through the millennia. At one point on the path you go through a deep gorge, and then emerge at a higher elevation to see a wide expanse of stone field aka the “Stone Sea”, it looks like a vast lava field. This is what the area once looked like prior to the erosion carving the limestone into the formations you now see.

The park has wildlife specific to the area, including a beautiful green plant that only grows from the rock in this region. On a side note, we found out that Conan the Barbarian was filmed here. We visited in the morning in January, and only encountered a few people. I love that we were able to set the pace and explore without being rushed. My only regret is that we didn’t bring a picnic. Ultimately, it is a great place for anyone who can walk an easy path up to 1 mile. There are a few steps here and there, so it might be difficult for someone in a wheelchair, but I think you should be able to work around these with some consultation with the park staff.

Amazing place, a stunning example of limestone karst scenery that has been eroded and weathered into incredible shapes. It's also a beautiful natural space with lots of wildlife, plants and animals. We had a guided tour which was great for understanding how the rocks have formed and knowledge about the flora and fauna.

We took the guided tour and our guide was excellent. He told and showed us things not in the guide books. Great couple of hours.

Worth the trip. We were lucky, came on a Monday in the middle of the day and everyone must have been having lunch. We had the entire place to ourselves. We only passed a couple sets of other groups of people when entering and exiting. Cute, reasonably priced souvenirs and cold drinks and treats at the end of the loop. They recommend 1.5 hrs walking slowly and taking pictures for the short loop. We took a little more than 2 but we also picnicked inside. Def recommend. Large, beautiful natural rock formations.

If you are visiting Cuenca, this park is worth the 20 minutes drive. The rock’s formations will stimulate your imagination: The bears, the bridge, the lovers …..

Always disappointed when fees are charged for geology, however follow the fence south 300 meters and you can access the hillside for free.

The fence only encloses land owned by entrepreneurial locals offering a guide service. Beyond that it appears tone public access

Cuenca, in Castile-La Mancha in central Spain is famous for its hanging houses), but tear yourself away from admiring precipitous architecture to be awestruck by rock formations that make you think 'how on earth did those get there? Resembling giant mushrooms, put there by a creative, slightly psychadelic god, these natural monuments actually owe their appearance to erosion (sorry, boring)

Awesome rock formations. The path is about 3km long and you pass all the rocks, stone trees and giant mushrooms, a turtle, a stone elephant,... . It's up to your fantasy what you see there.
It is definitely worth a go with children. For people with a walking impairment, however, only the first metres are accessible. Proper shoes are recommended.
The parking is huge and free. There is a restaurant nearby and free toilets.
Recommendable for a picknick.
