Great experience. Loved praying at the altar with iron crucifix. Would have stayed had it been a little further on the road. Too short a distance for my trip that day. They have a telescope for stargazing at night. It's very dark here so I imagine it would be excellent.

Iconic albergue on the Camino a few minutes walk before Castrojeriz. Volunteers are running the place. These are ruins of an old monastery. Very special place and the volunteers are so friendly. If you are a pilgrim used to a certain comfort, please know that the place has no running hot water. I truly recommend this albergue, and please be generous with the donations so the unique albergue can continue to exist.

It looks great. Pity I couldn’t stay there on 21.01 probably because volunteers were away for some local celebrations. I’ve just seen barking doggies 😂 hopefully you’ll be luckier than me as this place is opened for pilgrims in winter as well

Limitless stars in the sky here. Rich history at the monastery, and the limited facilities at this albergue attract a certain type of pilgrim (the kind I'm most excited to interact with). If you're ready to stay somewhere without access to electricity or hot water, come here and enjoy dinner by candlelight 🕯

A beautiful place to spend some quiet, contemplative time. Now an albergue for pilgrims and a snack and gift bar relying on donations.
In the past this beautiful place of healing would have ministered to people suffering from St Anthony's Fire, a disease brought about by eating infected grain. One cure was good food and plenty of wine to perfuse the skin.
Built in the 14th century and now being lovingly cared for, I would recommend a stop here on the Camino Frances or if visiting the area.

Lovely setting. I just passed through, didn't stay in the albergue, but I also hear it is great

This is a stunning place, circled with the ruins of an ancient monastery of Saint Anthony. It's a really astonishing place, full of charm and truly surprising for the atmosphere it gives off. The structure is very simple, as nowadays it's basically just a circle of ruins around the Camino de Santiago pathway. But also this, the fact that you have to go through it, evokes strong emotions!
