Restaurant du Grand Barrail

We were on our way to St.Emilion, happened to passing by at lunch time, we went to hotel reception asking for drop-in without much hope, but lucky enough, we got guided to the beautiful backyard immediately. The restaurant has indoor tables, but with the vineyard view outside of terrace and the lovely sun, we didn't hesitate to choose a outdoor table.
The service was typical old fashion French, so as the food. By the time of visit, we had been on gourmand tour in France for almost a month, the menu, wine list or the arrangement were no longer Wow us, but I have to point it out that the taste of simply-looking dish were very true to itself, the vegetable really tickled me more than I expected. In someway, bring the original taste out of the each ingredient and still have harmony together, is more admirable than blending everything into one.

Wife and I spent our one year anniversary here. Phenomenal service, food and ambiance. Sommelier picked a perfect bottle of wine for my wife and I. Altogether one of the best meals I've had in France.

All four of us experienced spectacular meals— from start to finish— and excellent service. Our dinner was so well crafted that we cancelled other reservations in town to dine at Barrail again before leaving the area. We also dined at Michelin starred restaurants nearby and cannot fathom why this kitchen doesn’t have at least one star. It was the best meal we enjoyed in our three weeks in France and Italy.

Exceptional. We stayed at Grand Barrail itself and staff booked us a dinner here. Food was incredible, service was very attentive. There was a pianist and all in all we had a wonderful evening. Thank to all the staff that looked after us.

Had dinner here two separate nights with another couple. Not only was the food truly excellent both evenings but our hostess, Pauline, was the absolute best in every way. Professional, knowledgeable about all the offerings and an absolute joy. Cannot recommend the restaurant or Pauline any more highly.
