We had a delicious evening dinner here with a great view over the valley. The staff were amazingly friendly and accommodating for our 2.5 year old child too.
The duck was delicious and my husband had a large steak cooked perfectly.
If you’re in the area definitely stop by for a lovely meal, friendly staff and stunning views you won’t be disappointed - it’s great.

Really nice place to grab lunch after visiting the castle in town. Nice views, a nice, tree and umbrellas covered patio, and delicious food. If your in town, treat yourself to a nice meal here.

Nice spot to grab lunch by the chateau Castelnaud. Beautiful views from the wall of windows inside and on the terrace under a giant fig tree. Confit of duck, gravlax of trout, short ribs and salad with local Cabécou cheese and walnuts were very nice. The woman who served us was so kind and friendly…it was a great little find off the main path.

Good service and food. The two of us ordered an entree + plat for 14 euros. Good value! They only offered veal or pork for the plat so the server said I could make one of my entree a plat so I got a butternut squash soup and a beets salad. Perfect for me since i don't eat meat. My husband got the veal and my mother in law got the pork. Both loved their meal.

The server spoke a little English but good enough for us to order and enjoy a meal here.

I'd either make reservation or come when they open to get a table by the corner to get a gorgeous view.

High recommend it!

One of the warmest, friendliest dining experiences we've had in France and the food and setting are both excellent. We had roast duck and smoked trout both of which were delicious. Highly recommended.

One of the friendliest welcomes we have ever had in France, I suggest booking as even in November in winter, all of the restaurants were booked out. The food was absolutley delicious, especailly the pork which melted in the mouth as it was cooked in duck fat. The deserts were also great. We will be back in the summer to eat on the nice terrace. Thank you for a delicious meal. Merci

We visited the restaurant for lunch.
Excellent food and a good service. Very nice place under a fig tree with great view to the castle. We took the three course menue for 22 Euro.
Be aware, parking only in front of the historcal village on gernal parking. There are no parking lots in the village.

Dinner here was an absolute treat. Great food and wine/beer (we couldn’t help ourselves; try the artisan beer from Bergerac!) in an amazing setting. The mains were both well portioned and delicious. The staff went above and beyond, even to the point where when we were stuck for a taxi they stepped up to the plate. Couldn’t recommend it more!

We booked based on reviews and were not disappointed. Food and service was amazing. Although, kids option was limited, it did not spoil our visit. We ate from the atypical set menu’s and enjoyed a taste sensation of the highest standards.... was like eating in a Michelin stared restaurant. Bravo!

Very friendly staff and all the dishes we had were great including duck confit and beef with bleu cheese. Finally, they make perhaps the best crème brûlée I've ever had, with almond and extra vanilla. Parfait!

Best dining experience in a good while! Wonderful staff, breathtaking view (we had our table near the edge of the seating area where the view was best) and of course amazing food.

We had the menu with a warm goat cheese salad with walnuts and honey as a starter, then as our main course the duck leg with fried potatoes (confit de canard), and as dessert both the crème brulée and the nut pie (tarte aux noix).

The salad was refreshing and had just the right amount of bite because of the tangy balsamic dressing, which was a nice contrast to the soft creaminess of the goat cheese on toast, the duck leg was roasted to perfection with crispy skin, a good amount of fat, and potatoes that were so tasty I could've honestly eaten a plate of only those and been a very happy customer. The desserts were magnificent, the crème brulée had a dash of almond flavor which complimented the creaminess of the custard really well, and the nut pie reminded me a lot of pecan pie, just with assorted nuts, it was served slightly warm and had the most decadent, yummy filling.

All in all the perfect closure to our fun day at Castle Chateau Castelnaud! Thank you! ❤

Great setting with an excellent view. We had a nice bottle of wine and the entrecôte, which was one of the specials. I think €24 for the entrecôte was quite expensive compared to the other mains but it was good and overall we had a very nice meal.

A tastefully renovated and romantic restaurant with a great view over Castelnaud area valley. I believe the restaurant in this incarnation is new and the passion for the local produce, wine and other drinks can be felt from the young owners. We had the 3 course dinner with a wine recommended from the owner. The food was nice and interesting and the wine was a local Bergerac low intervention organic blended red which had a very interesting minerality and flint aspect to it that we all enjoyed for its unique character. We were a potentially challenging group of 8 including 2 young children with basic french language skills but the owners were very accommodating and made us feel at ease. While there is room for improvement im still giving it 5 stars because I did love it and there is a difference between having a great experience and it being perfect. This is their first review and I would like to see them do well. Thanks for the nice evening.

A very good restaurant with a really nice view. We enjoyed the duck meat, the salads, the desserts. I hope you're hungry cause the plates are big!

Started with a nice local beer from an artisan brewery, trout gravadlax then beef with lentils and a lovely mustard based butter with paprika sauce. Our children had the goat's cheese croque monsieur and the confit de canard. The house Bergerac was lovely, going well with the beef. We had a pudding based on nuts and caramel from the menu - I can't remember exactly but it was delicious...The welcome was friendly and engaging, they speak English if your French is rusty. If there was one thing that could be improved it was that there was a long wait after the main course - they were very busy then. Its in a lovely setting with a figuier on the terrace and views of the valley and the castle. We would go back without hesitation!

The chef at Les Mâchicoulis takes regional ingredients and elevates them to something exquisite. I highly recommend dining at this establishment. The best two meals that I ate in the Dordogne region were here.

Incredibly good for the price. We’ve lived in France for three years and this is possibly the best meal we’ve had in a restaurant that didn’t have a Michelin star!

Excellent smoked trout starter, followed by Maigret canard, the view is excellent and the service was very good. The price was reasonable.
