Le Café de la Place Périgueux

We came here for a drink earlier in the day and were pleasantly surprised at how cheap the drinks were.
On the strength of this and online reviews, we decided to eat here in the evening.
What an excellent meal both of us had too! Caesar salad and steak were excellent, followed by two great desserts.
Prices not a rip-off. Thoroughly recommend.

Very French decor, really lovely staff and fantastic food. The confit is the best in the area and goes down well with a glass of Pecharmant wine.

Very good food at a very reasonable price. They always make you feel welcome. They are always willing and trying to accommodate you, even outside the usual eating hours for France.

Everytime I'm in Perigueux I go to eat at least once at this cafe.
There have been some memorable dishes, the most recent one a few months ago being a layered sort of lasagna with canard confit and sauce perigourdine aux truffes and mushrooms, and another time - this is one of their classics, always on the menu - the tagliatelle with fois gras poelé, very tender and full of flavor with a sauce a la creme that is amazing. At lunch I always go with the recommendation from the waiter and the "menu du jour", and I remember some lovely boudin pommes caramelisées and purée maison, a lapin sauce perigourdine another time.
The service is much better during the off-season; August sees too many tourists being served by too few waiters/waiteresses.
Try the regional wines!
