We wandered around in the cave and totally enjoyed all the history and gardens. Then we ate at one of the sweet little cafes on the street of the Abbey. After that we hit the shops in the little village across the bridge and souvenir shopped my little heart out. Wonderful day!

Visited Brantome for the second time and I have to say its an amazing beautiful place. There are even shops built into caves next to the river which surrounds the island. You can hire canoes and kayaks and paddle around the island and over a weir to complete a circuit. Would I visit a third time... definitely. Fantastic.

Beautiful little village that has seen every culture from Neanderthal man living in Troglodyte Caves to the work of monks dating from as far back as 8th Century. Recommended to us by another Brit traveller and glad we made the trip

Very cool. Lots to do: train, shops, historic church, picnic areas, historic sites and great views.

This place is AMAZING, pitoresk, magical, romantic. It ticks all my boxes to spend the day(s) with my family.

Brantome is one of the most beautiful and preserved village in Dordogne. The Abbey is so interesting and the walk along the river is beautiful. Kayak tours are also available and recommended. You can sit and relax by the old stone bridge in front of the water mill. Many shops offer locally made crafts.

Gorgeous place, only went to get a coffee and ended up staying a couple of hours. Beautiful old buildings and very relaxing.

Didn't go to the Abbey itself but this is a very pretty picturesque town that is well worth a visit at any time but especially when the sun is shining and the Friday morning market is open. I've been visiting this region for years and this spot is always a favourite.

Lovely town, one of our favourites in France. Aire de camping a few minutes from town. Large site. Out of season plenty of room.

Brantôme is one of our favourite places to wander the streets, enjoy the riverside setting of the Abbey, shops and restaurants. Go kayaking, take a boat trip, and finish with an ice-cream 😃.

A religious building carved in a cave, certainly interesting and unusual. Beautiful views. Good explanations, except for changes when it was a public building. A few parts closed due to rock falls. Toilets available. Rather awkward ticket vending machine. These can be bought in the tourist office. Tours to tower only in french

The abbey is the centre piece of the ancient village. Quiet village cafes and restaurants with ample parking only minutes away. Hotels get busy in summer.

Really historic Abbey. The Abbey is free but for the caves behind there is a small charge. Normally art expos in the Abbey

A unique site to visit ! This troglodite Abbey was inhabited by the monks. Have a look at the view when visiting the exhibition by the Vauban staircase (photo) and the bas-reliefs of the cave.

Incredible, rich in history - the 'Venice of Périgord'. Requires a full day.
