Awesome architecture & loads of history behind the Northington Grange.
If you're in the area it's definitely worth the visit, we walked around the outside close to the building & then again on the grass away from the building to admire all the architectural work.
Heaps of room for a picnic and room to play soccer and other games.
The building is starting to deteriorate & needs some needs good upkeep & definitely a pressure washer and this place will be better than ever.
Signs around the property with information about the history about the Northington Grange, who the owners where, architectures etc.
The most annoying thing is the drive from the main road to the property, there are heaps of potholes along the dirt road.

Enjoyed a quiet walk around. Plenty of parking at the time we went. Not massively obvious at the entrance that you can drive in.

Wonderful building and gardens, documenting familial excess and upper class idiocy for over 400 years to this day. Get a look at the building whilst you still can, whilst the people that own the land try and destroy it.

Incredibly scenic on a sunny day. It is English Heritage but the exterior grounds are open to the public for free. Beware of walking off limits as the grounds are open but some parts are privately owned. Dogs must be kept close and there are steep ledges to be wary of especially if travelling with children. The inside of the house is off limits to the public but is occasionally used for events such as weddings. Also there is an Opera House owned by The Grange Festival where the orangery used to be. There is parking on the grounds. No CCTV or security so keep valuables hidden or take them with you.

Set in the outskirts of Northington, Hampshire lies a striking comparison of Greek revival architecture in England. The building was first built in the 1660’s as a palladian brick mansion but later in the 19th century it was transformed into a monumental neoclassical mansion all inspired and resembling the Greek culture and in particular a likeness of a Greek temple.

Unfortunately the building was in bad disrepair and was left neglected until the around 1975 where it was saved from demolition and now stands proud in the beautiful country side and is now an English Heritage site as well as providing the public with a venue for the annual festival of opera.

The house was built by William Samwell between the years of 1664 and 1673, it was later commissioned by Sir Robert Henley. Around 100 years later a banker, Henry Drummond brought the estate and the surroundings and added in the lake and the landscaped park. Drummond brought in an architect, William Wilkins who set about to change the exterior of the property and brought in the resemblance of Greek temples.

We very much enjoyed the visit to the grange, we were the only people there and managed to walk around the mansion and the park leisurely and with no problems, it’s a shame you aren’t allowed inside the property but it is a stunning scale of Greek architecture and it is completely different to the ruins and the medieval castles we are used to seeing.

Loved the venue as a place for classical music festival. The grounds, the view and the building all formed the backdrop to an amazing musical experience.

Absolutely stunning setting. The property is obviously in a state of disrepair, and work appears to be underway but some years from being completed. The grounds though are remarkable. There are a number of birds of prey around the lake, and it's just a shame there isn't a walk down to the water.

Visited the Hampshire Fair yesterday. The Grange is an idle spot for these types of events. The Grange is a perfect area with lovely grounds and the Grange itself is a very grand building. Well worth spending sometime for relaxation and a picnic. Beautiful area.

5Star Private Hire (Andover) recently assisted clients to the Grange for the fabulous Opera Night. My clients mentioned that the ventilation was a little inadequate. Otherwise, all had an excellent time!

Beautiful grounds and buildings. Views are jaw dropping.
Theatre seats very comfortable. Fortunate to have a wonderful arts venue so close (within an hour of my home).
My only negative would be the portaloo's.

Strangely monumental building in the Greek Revival style set in parkland in beautiful Hampshire countryside. Interior of the main building derelict but orangery converted into a theatre and there is a summer opera festival. Walk around the grounds to admire the colossal building and perhaps combine with a visit to St John's church, a mile or so to the north, another splendid Victorian building in the Candover valley.

A lovely place to look round, hope it will be restored to original order. It’s just the outside you walk around I was told the inside has been gutted.

Had a walk around the grounds surrounding the house. The day we visited a show was being set up for that evening.

A monument to someone's vanity and greed, it stands in beautiful Hampshire's countryside surroundings as a silent monster, it's intimidating facade deprived of curves and decoration reminds more of a place of worship than a private residence. The grounds were absolutely desolate at 300pm on Saturday afternoon in brilliant sunshine save for two ladies and their dog lounging with picknick. Its grandeur made me wonder if it is the biggest building by volume in Hampshire countryside? There are no toilets, car parks are ample and reached by rotten track with cute houses , pastures and grazing animals. What a location!

Magnificent building even though it's quite derelict. The grounds are marvelous to walk around with a large pond.

Lovely grounds, perfect for a dog walk.
Free parking after you have navigated the rough roads on the way up.
Shame you can't get down to the water, but lovely views, take a picnic!
