This should have been and was a visit from my childhood. Ivor the engine Jones the steam etc. The station staff and engines fulfilled all of that. The weather had other ideas. High winds and rain delayed the journey, but it still was a truly wonderful experience landslide delayedreturningjourney. Obviously better in better weather !. We had the advantage of seeing some spectacular waterfalls from the rain runoff, so not all was lost ! We had half the ticket price refunded but made a donation back.
Staff throughout the day and the problems were fantastic.
Check the weather, and it will be a memorable day out.

We travelled from Porthmadog to Blaenau Ffestiniog, standard class. The journey was 1 hour 15 minutes each way with a half hour stop at Blaenau. The staff were very helpful and informative, and came through with refreshments - ice creams, drinks and snacks. There are various journey options available. Our return journey cost £44 each. There were some nice views of rivers and reservoir/lake but a lot was through the trees. We enjoyed seeing them stoking the engines with coal, etc - all part of a great steam train experience.

We had an amazing day , I booked this in advance for my partner's birthday. The staff and volunteers were lovely and helpful , we booked observation first class and this was 100% worth the money ,you get some breath taking views all the way there and back on this journey. We also paid for the food boxes and the food was lovely and also worth the money . Overall I'd 100% recommended taking this train joinery in any class.

We had a great day on the quarryman from Blaenau Ffestiniog to Porthmadog. The trip gives you plenty if time in Porthmadog before heading back. Some great views and met some lovely people along the way. Staff very knowledgeable and helpful.

An absolutely wonderful day spent travelling from Blaenau Ffestioniog to Porthmadog. It was a grey, rainy day but still amazing. The staff were great and the views were incredible. There's something about the sound of a steam train that just makes you smile

Simply my favourite railway in the world. The history of the line is fascinating and it’s unique preservation of the original rolling stock and facilities is worth a visit on it’s own. The journey takes over two hours through breathtaking scenery and the engineering used nearly two hundred years ago to build the line is still extremely impressive.

We went on this railway with our son who loves trains and we had an amazing time. The scenery was magnificent, we also had and afternoon tea on the train when we got to ffestiniog. It is well worth the trip to see the scenery including waterfalls and magnificent cliff endge drops. We went in August and had lovely weather which also helped as we could see for miles across the landscape. Would highly recommend it's a brilliant thing to do when staying locally 😊

Fabulous scenery, recommend 1st class if you can stretch that far. The picnic hamper was worth the extra too. A must so for all are groups.

Fantastic railway with spectacular views, one of my personal favourites so far. 44£ per adult for a return trip I don't feel is bad value and only £2 for kids. Stood at the open window with the steam blowing in who can't enjoy that! Only let down by the 35 or so mins before the return trip we collected our preordered food, went to the toilet and had to rush in the giftshop so if its a busy day i imagine it can be hectic! Didn't even get to see the loco change ends sadly. Still an absolute must visit IMO

A long cherished ambition to ride on the Ffestiniog Railway was fulfilled on this trip. The history of the place, the smell of steam, the authenticity of the rolling stock plus much more added to the atmosphere. We travelled on the Quarryman from Blaenau Ffestiniog to Porthmadog on a beautiful day in late May and all my anticipation was met - and then some. This heritage railway is well worth a visit and highly recommended.

A small station with a little shop and toilets.
The Railway itself is brilliant, the staff are really friendly. Trains are spotless and very well maintained. In general, trains run pretty much to time, and the carriages are comfy. It's worth arriving early to get your seat.

Had this train ride as an optional extra on my trip to North Wales. It was just brilliant and the scenery was spectacular. It is a 13.5 mile journey from Porthmadog. Seating is a little snug, but it is narrow gauge. Wouldn't have missed it for the world.

Lovely Place even if you're not travelling on the train. Staff are lovely, small gift shop isn't overly priced either which in these times is a bonus highley recommend. The train ride itself was well worth the money, breathtaking veiws, had a great few hours

We wanted to go up Snowdon but that train doesn't take dogs, so we took the Mountain Spirit from Porthmadog to Blaenau Ffestiniog and back, and enjoyed the dream of steam so much we went on the longer Harbourmaster trip from Porthmadog to Caernarfon the next day! Fab weather meant superb views over Snowdonia. The trains are great fun, the staff (volunteers) are lovely and the scenery is magnificent. Wise to book ahead, and maybe take a flask although there is a trolley service on the Harbourmaster, and you can book a hamper.

A great time on a lovely steam train, although a rainy day it was still fun.

A fantastic day out. Well worth the money spent. Beautiful scenery to look at going past the windows. Train travelled at a leisurely pace so you could see all the sights. Reservoir, water falls, cows and sheep in the fields and stunning countryside. Staff and volunteers were fantastic and very knowledgeable. We had a beautiful sunny day so could see for miles. Mt Snowdon and Harlech castle in the distance. Thanks to everyone involved.

Great journey, great views. I upgraded to first class for the return so was in an observation carriage with panoramic views. Well worth the round trip.

Bit expensive, but I imagine high costs to maintain and provide. It's a great railway, beautifully presented. Polite friendly staff, and a hot to use. The scenery is stunning. Lovely experience.
