Starting Gate

We have been here twice now in our 7m motorhome and the value for money is superb.
The food is your traditional fayre but we enjoyed our small mixed grills one night and the two for £11.99 meal deal which in our case was small fish, chips and mushy peas & a hunters chicken, chips and garden peas. The latter suited our appetites but bigger eaters may want a starter or pudding.
In terms of motor caravans etc, we found parking at the furthest end away from the road best for sleeping. There are no facilities outside pub hours so you need to be self sufficient. It is a requirement that you have food and a drink to offset free parking. This is a great stopover en route elsewhere or to catch the bus into Nottingham.

It is my local pub. It is good place for some and food drink. I visit it very often. Have free parking.

Visited for a cheap and cheerful meal with the family and that’s exactly what we got! Food was delicious - especially the steaks and excellent value for money. The staff were also really friendly and happy to help. Will be returning.

Great little boozer. Nicely located just off the country park. Buzzing atmosphere and the Friday playlist was a vibe. Fantastic deals and great value. Super friendly staff. Would definitely come again.

Staff very welcoming and friendly, great location, nice walks from there car park, public transport to City Centre right outside. Fantastic Food, would highly recommend.

Spent a really nice Friday evening here, friendly service, good choice of good value food, and very doggy friendly.

Was able to sleep in our camper van in the carpark, which was quiet & felt safe. 5* will definitely come again

We stopped here for the night with our motorhome after reading a few reviews, and they were all correct on the premises and hospitality (great staff). The best part is the menu, they a variety of daily specials. We decided to go with 2 mains for £11.49 and they were a great choice, both meals were cooked to perfection. The best way to put a review is, if we were in the area would we come back and from us both it is a loud YES.

Arrived on a Sunday evening and had 3 main meals and drinks. Service was friendly and fast, we all enjoyed our food. We could take our dog, who had cuddles from staff too! Great value for us as we also stayed for free overnight in our motorhome. Fantastic walks right next door to the Starting Gate, lovely wooded areas and lakes to walk round. Close enough to main roads to be easily accessible but quiet enough overnight to rest. If we're that way again we'll definitely be back!

I have been here several times now mainly on a Monday night as I work in Nottingham on a late shift. I come here for the amazingly good food and good company of the staff who are all very friendly and helpful. I sleep over in my camper van on the car park and have had many good nights sleep while here. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a one night stop over.

Went as a party of 10 last minute for a meal and drinks. The Service was outstanding, Rebeca was brilliant, making sure we had everything we needed. She didn’t stop for a minute and it was genuine that nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent with good Presentation and taste. Lovely atmospheres, even had a few games of pool to finish.
Would Highly recommend, and will most definitely be returning for food, drinks and socialising.

We stayed here in our motorhome for 2 nights a month ago - staff were very accommodating and the food was really good - highly recommend this Pub for an overnight stop and for drinks/food - close to city centre - bus stop very handy and good walking in the area - thankyoh for letting us stay.

All the food we ordered was absolutely delicious, hot and there were no issues with anything missing or wrong. The staff were absolutely lovely too. We will definitely be returning!

Once again, very friendly staff. Happy to accept us, our dog and our motorhome. Always feel welcome here. They even have a treat station for the dog and are very happy to supply bowls of water. Can’t fault it. Yet again the starting gate comes up trumps.

Passed this place so many times never been in. Well shame on me! Last minute birthday meal on a back holiday for ten people. Under staffed. But gave us the heads up so our choice. Yes some things could of been a little better but under the circumstances couldn't fault them. Becca was none stop sorting everything
Have an 18th birthday meal to sort in June for a large family. Hope you're ready for the mid-week dinners as we will be back!

Great free pub stop for a campervan.
Large flat carpark, no facilities when pub shut but I am self contained anyway. Near main road but if you park at far end the noise is minimal.
3 other vans there but still plenty of room.
Friendly, lively local pub, TV with sport on.
Greene King chain - food pretty average but good prices and portion sizes.
I used it to visit racecourse- easy 15/20 minute walk.
Would definitely recommend

Little bit of a wait for food but they were busy. When it came out though the food was really good and great value for money. Would recommend.

Excellent service, food was amazing I had the sirloin steak and it’s one of the best steaks I have had it cut like butter, my partner had the mixed grill and loved it also. Thank you We will be back ☺
