I was plesantly surprised how many different paths there is. Car park is fairly sized and it is free. There are toilets at a visitor centre, and there are plenty of tables if you fancy to have a little brake outside. Paths are all sign posted and well looked after. Many hideways for bird watching. It is a very peaceful place to visit. Definitely will be back in a future.

Well maintained walking paths and wonderful scenes to view. Very accessible and mostly flat ground. Plenty of different wildlife and flowers to see. Free parking by the visitor center and easy to find. The visitor center is dog friendly and the volunteers are very helpful and friendly. Great place for a leisurely walk and a small picnic.

Lovely few hours spend walking round the pits with friends and our dog. Not too busy and plenty of stop off places along route. A few more dog waste bins would be helpful. Loved all the information boards telling you what to look out for. Shop by the car park perfect for a little post walk refreshment. Dogs water bowls by most benches a big plus too.

First time visiting here despite living so close.
Was stunning. Couple of walks to do. We did the heron walk which was around 1.5 hrs and circles the lakes.
So much wildlife to see. Many herons, and other birds.
There were few hides to watch the wildlife in. Visitor center has a cafe and you can also get binoculars before your walk, which I didn't realise until afterwards.
Heard the cuckoo several times also.
Ample parking and hardly saw a soul walking around.

First ever visit. What pleasant walk with my dog. Very well maintained and signed pathways. We followed the Heron trail which took about 1 hour. Will definitely visit this interesting place again. Unfortunately we didn't get to see the visitors centre as we were there after 4.00pm.

I was house-sitting for the weekend & wanted to visit a Nature Reserve not too far away. Read the reviews & I agree Paxton Pits Nature Reserve is a little gem. The staff in the visitor centre were friendly & helpful. The walks took you past meadow, woods, riverside & lakeside, each offering sounds & sights of nature.
So many swans, geese & ducks, a deer making a quick getaway, herons patiently waiting for a snack to pass by. There are hides giving a good view.
Definitely will be back for a longer visit.
There is a large car park, tho it does have a few potholes so drive carefully.

We came across this by accident on the way home from a weekend away. Found a little gem of a place.
Free car parking and visitor center, which is run by volunteers, so is not always open......
The walks are lovely, plenty of benches to stop and enjoy the peace, paths are brilliant and sign posted clearly.

A number of birding viewing platforms and 2 hides. Seen some lovely birds, and the kingfisher let us watch him perched on a branch for more than 10 minutes.

Overall I would recommend this reserve. It has transformed from an old quarry, and part of the quarry is still in operation today. When finished with, will be added to the reserve and will be even more pits and area to walk around.

Will definitely be visiting again when in the area.

This is such a beautiful place. I always see deer on my walks, I never tire of it. The birds are plentiful and lovely to watch and listen to. There are several wheelchair accessible bird hides dotted around.
I was lucky enough this evening to spot some water shrew hunting for food, that was such a treat. There are plenty of perfectly placed benches around for those like myself that need to take short breaks . It's peaceful and really well maintained. Wheelchair access is good.

What a fabulous place. Have been to many nature reserves but have to say that this was one of the best in relation to variety of animals.. lots of birds along with my favourites kingfisher, herons and Cormorants. Many insects also including dragonflies. Did bot see otters but did see deer.

Beautiful free to enter nature reserve with lots of hides to observe wildlife. Lovely lakes with meandering footpaths. Intersects with Ouse Valley Walk for a longer trek. Safe pathways and lovely views. Nice to hear and see all the different birds and wildlife. Took Rex the Miniature Daschund here for a walk and he loved it.

We're regulars at Paxton Pits: it has everything - from tables to eat your picnic on, a little shop for coffees and ice creams, and clean loos. (Both shop and loos open til 4pm on weekends).

Of course, it also has beautiful countryside to wander in! The trails are good for 1 - 1.5 hours of ambling. Nothing too challenging but very peaceful and a little doors on trees on the way to Little Paxton to keep small people entertained.

Don't go here. It's beautiful, loads of Bird hides - kingfishers, gannets, herons galore - good paths, and a lovely visitors centre with cheap tea and coffee - cake and ice-cream. Free parking. Don't go - if too many people know about this free local resources they will start charging!

Do watch for the mining trucks - the pits didn't make themselves and it remains an operating site but it's all very well managed and separated.

Free entry, free parking, visitor centre, tea, coffee, ice cream... what's not to like. Pleasant walks and scenery, lakes, river, and meadow habitat. Don't forget your binoculars for the wildlife.
