Had a great stop over here, on my way to Scotland.
The owner, staff and the chef were brilliant.
Was only planning on staying 1 night, but the food and service was that good I actually stayed here for 3 nights.
They have an electric hook up if needed, at £10 pound a night.
Very friendly pub and I will definitely return.
Oh it was a full pineapple ring but I ate half before taking photos.

Stopped off here on our way home from Wales. What an amazing find. We both had mince and onion pie, hand cut chips and peas. Absolutely delicious. Very friendly and polite young lad serving. Great beer garden. Will definitely come back if in the area.

Staying locally. The malt shovel was recommended to us.. warm friendly atmosphere great service. My partner and one of my daughters choose the ribs off the specials board. "WOW" amazing ..!! My other daughters chose the malt house burger. She demolished it. My other daughter opted for the classic fish and chips she devoured it. Fantastic food 110% going back

Stumbled across this establishment on Friday 24th April. Fab food, we had the Crunchy Sweet Chilli Chicken Stirfry and the desserts are to die for. Lovely welcome by staff plus a nice cosy log fire. And dog friendly as well. Downside is it's not near my hometown.

Lovely village atmosphere and unfussy well executed food, excellent flavours and generous portions, the home made chips are a gem, what else could you ask for?
Plenty of beer selections available for those that like to browse/sample a broad base. Would definitely return next time we are in the area

Food was amazing, fresh and served piping hot. Staff were very welcoming and couldn't be more helpful. We arrived on Saturday dinnertime, and there were plenty of seating options inside and outside. Dog friendly, and was the perfect place to stop and have food after a walk. Only reason for 4/5 for atmosphere is due to it being very quiet at this time. Would recommend.

Great food cooked by Stuart. Home cooked food with good portion sizes especially the light bites. Very accommodating and good hosts ( Toby and Laura). Easy listening live music that wasn't loud. Definitely will come back.

Rang in and phone answered quickly. Excellent staff. Polite, friendly and welcoming! The cottage pie was homemade and tastey.

A good mix of locals and walkers. It's dog friendly. A great spot for a few pints and a bite to eat. Sky sports on site, cant go wrong!

A lovely big tradition pub. We had a couple of beers from the great range of real ale. Really friendly lad behind the bar who knows his stuff, he was happy to give us a try of the beers on offer . The beers were excellent well presented and reasonably priced. We sat in the large well kept beer garden, a really pleasant visit .we didn't have food but the menu looked very good and food smelled delicious.

Came to the Malt Shovel to watch the England game and have some food, friendly atmosphere and a large beer garden. Reasonably priced and food was great. Was served by Laura who was super friendly and took great care of us during our visit. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting the area 👍🏻

Visited Easter Sunday staying in a local Travelodge. Not even thinking needing to book a table found out they were fully booked. Staff were so friendly think landlord said he would ring round see if anyone had any tables free to accommodate us 3 adults and child. No one local had any thing so he had a word with the chef who very kindly accepted our order. Food was lovely couldn't fault it chips were especially good. Very reasonably priced, lovely outside space had the whether been better. Would recommend and return if in the area again.

Was looking for somewhere to eat and after reading the reviews we chose this place. The building looks a bit tired as does the inside but that does not reflect on the food which was absolutely out of this world. I had fish and chips fish was perfect and the chips were “like mum used to make”. Our peg had the curry special which was chickpea and spinach. I really didn’t fancy that but I tasted it and it was fantastic, luckily there was plenty of it so I finished it off for her. Kids had chicken nuggets which were home made. The prices were on the cheap side of what I would expect to pay for this quality of food. All the staff were very friendly and by the time we left the place was packed out with all the locals having a pint after work. If we are ever in the area again I will definitely be visiting again.
