Loved this a beautiful location and great inside and out. We didn't stay in the main body of the castle which was a little disappointing bit when we asked all rooms were fully booked up so we weren't able to book into the castle however you can walk around and access all the castle. There is plenty of parking around the castles surroundings. We was in hope of finding some kind of haunting/paranormal after hearing that the castle falls under one of Britain's most haunted. However most we seen were some orbs flying around. The bar is 24hours for those that want it you might want bank loan if you plan been in there 24hours as drink and food are pricey. We didn't book in for evening meal as when we went to ask the time slots left weren't suited to us so we got a share platter whilst in the library bar was OK for a snack but not a meal so we got a takeaway delivered when we finished drinking. The breakfast you book when checking in and you get to select a time between 8 and 10.30 which we thought was excellent and managed to get a sleep in. Our breakfast was at 10.15 there's a cold buffet to start then you can choose from the hot menu. We both chose full English minus black pudding but we didn't receive our toast and a hash brown would of made a nice addition the plate was oversized for what was thrown on there. For some reason two couples who came to breakfast after us and ordered the same were served before us which we found odd. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would book again and will be following to see if any events are coming up.

Just spent 3 days here on a business trip and had a Classic Courtyard room. The room was spacious and comfortable and decorated in line with the character of the castle. The water was hot and the fittings were suitable. Beautiful grounds and a lovely location. The food in the Knights restaurant was excellent and good value for money. Breakfast was also excellent and a good start to the day. I will visit here again with family and spend more time exploring the castle. The service from all staff was excellent, and the castle cat even came to say goodbye at checkout 😀.

Just a short distance from the centre of Chester-le-Street, in a beautiful setting. We had a courtyard bedroom which was
in a quiet area. The whole castle is beautiful with a real sense of history. All the staff were first rate and nothing was too much. We used the restaurant in the evening and the meal and service were exceptional. We will definitely be returning.

Lumley Castle Hotel is stunning. It is set in beautiful well kept grounds. The castle is over 600 years old and was a wonderful find. The room was a good size and the bed was so comfortable. The room was very warm, but there is a fan provided, which we had on through the night. Breakfast choice was very good. Lots of cereal, fruit, continental items to choice from, plus a hot menu, cooked to order and toast, as well as fruit juice and hot drinks. A wonderful find.

We had an overnight stay with breakfast. The room was spacious with a comfy bed. The breakfast was tasty. The buffet style continental breakfast was outstanding. They had thought of everything. Then a good choice of hot food. We had a lovely walk around the grounds Would definitely stay again. Highly recommend.

Beyond my expectations.
Stunning place in a great location. The outside looked amazing. and the inside matched it. We had a comfortable courtyard room, and it was stylish and clean with probably the most comfortable bed I've slept in (RM31). Only minor improvement would be lined, or blackout curtains would help.
Bar food in the library bar was very good, as was the drinks. Staff were friendly and helpful and a credit to the hotel. Breakfast was excellent with a vast choice of both cooked (fresh) and continental options.

Stopped in a standard courtyard room. Lovely grounds, friendly staff and comfortable. Kettle, ironing board as hairdryer in the room. Centrally located. Parking at the castle can be difficult if they are busy. There is a golf course surrounding the hotel.

Don't go to a hundreds-year old castle if you don't want the experience. Lumley Castle was incredible! My bestie and I celebrated our 40ths here. Room: bed was comfortable. Temperature was perfect. The shower was awesome! Great water pressure and the water was hot. The castle: Yes, the floors arw crooked...it was built in the 1300s. I dont understand why people complain about that. The owners have done their best to update it to modern times but keep the castle-like feel. Tons of hallways and doors to explore! The courtyard was very pretty and perfect for morning coffee/tea. The resident Lady Poppet of the feline variety is adorable; very friendly; follow her on Instagram. The food: fine. Literally nothing to complain about. Huge breakfast. The Staff: ah, the staff. What really made my stay at Lumley so wonderful. From the jokes, to the attention to detail...was amazing. Nathan Cook, that man is a genuine soul and I am so sorry I didn't get to say good-bye. Thank you for personally serving us breakfast. Thanks also for the teddy bear. There was another gentleman, I'm sorry I didn't read the name tag, who shared stories with us, laughed with us, and just had a great conversation for an hour while I waited on my cab. Thanks for the hug!!! This whole place is just awesome. Again, don't come to a 1300's castle expecting a 2024 vibe. One things for certain, and two things for sure; this place and it's staff was a highlight of my trip. Thanks to Nathan and his team.

Stayed in the main castle, 4 poster bed in massive room, accessed via a tight spiral staircase - felt like a proper medieval castle. Staff very helpful. Lovely breakfast

We celebrated our 6th wedding Anniversary at Lumley castle this weekend our wedding was at this Hotel so some lovely memories of a fantastic day.
We were upgraded to the Queen Anne suite which is quirky and atmospheric. Lovely comfortable four poster bed, a real trip back in history but with all the modern amenities.
Breakfast was perfect we both had the full English but what makes this Hotel really special is the homely relaxed atmosphere which has never changed in the 6 years.
A mention to the nice reception manager this morning sorry we did not get your name, and we would like to again sing the praises of the wonderful wedding organiser Keith who helped make our wedding day special.

As my last name is Lumley, I wanted to go to the “Family Home”. It was well worth the wait! Our accommodations were spectacular and unique. The staff is cordial and welcoming. The food was extraordinary delicious and the library bar with Poppet cat was too inviting and very convenient.

Great experience.
Had lower room in cottages.
No AC, so could be very hot in mid-summer. Small windows open, no screens.
Good bed, friendly staff.
Beautiful castle with decor.

Love this place! Definitely not your average hotel... We stayed in a castle room - in the main body of the castle up a stone spiral staircase. Room was starting to look a little shabby, but overall was well equipped, clean and a nice, quirky place to sleep. They're in the process of renovating some of these rooms so hopefully they'll all be refreshed soon. Exterior of the castle and grounds are stunning and there are nice walks by the river just a stone's throw away. Staff are all lovely, breakfast was delicious and the restaurant is a lovely place to be. Exploring the inside of the castle is good fun and it's amazing to see how a 600yr old building has been turned into modern rooms with all facilities. Poppet the resident cat is also a joy to have around - what a home and life for a cat to have...lucky girl!

I went for mother's day treat with my daughter, daughter in law and granddaughter.
From arrival to being seated the staff were very attentive.
The afternoon tea was explained as to what the sandwiches were , scones and a mixture of small but definitely delicious cakes.
Coffee ,tea also soft drinks to accompany.
We did not feel hurried .
The surroundings are exquisite.
Very much enjoyed would definitely go back .

Beautiful castle situated in Chester-Le-Street, Co. Durham. I’ve stayed here several times with my wife and it’s absolutely stunning.

The grounds around the castle is perfect for a
early morning walk.
