Brilliant statue which is a very good way of highlighting the link which Stan Laurel had with Bishop Auckland. The plaque on the wall opposite explains the connection and describes how there was once a Theatre on that site where Stan's Dad once worked and where Stan himself had the pleasure of stepping into many times during his childhood. I think it's just lovely seeing Stan Laurel in any format to be honest, as I think that him and Ollie were amazing.

I live a couple of hundred yards from the statute in the same street where Stan Laurel lived for a time.
I'm extremely proud that this comedy great is associated with my home town.

There isn't much to say about this statue.

As a town, Bishop Auckland hasn't had much to offer until recent years with Kynren but this statue acts as a reminder and a tribute to our town's past, standing strong in the middle of the town for all to see.

I haven't actually visited the statue, yet! But I would just like to say that Stan Laurel was NOT born in Bishop Auckland. He was born in Ulverston, Lancashire. His father, Arthur Jefferson was a theatre manager from Bishop Auckland, his mother was an actress and so the family moved around the country quite a bit. There is also a statue of him in Dockwray Square, North Shields, where he also lived as a child.
