Jim is the most knowledgeable person on expeditions, especially to the colder regions... if you need help and advice, pop in. Despite the reasonable prices, the service is exceptional! Sam, thank you very much. Your help in recycling my empty gas cartridge was much appreciated. So I wouldn't have to carry it while hiking in Dartmoor and charging my phone 🤗

Excellent service and product. One of the few places it is possible to purchase a ME Kongur MRT jacket. Sam and Jim's product choice speaks positivity about their experience, values and credibiliy. My first visit to Basecamp Princetown was like a small child in a sweet shop. Unknown to me...Jim was outrageously experienced with the equipment and clothing for sale in the store. I asked for technical footwear and gave him my reasons for such. To discuss the advantages or disadvantages of each item on sale would take some time so Jim bounced a boot that ticked every box on my list. The next item was a water source filter...no problem...as Basecamp don’t stock rubbish gear and my shopping list was complete. With boots aboard I was looking down from a Tor within 30 minutes.
So impressed with no nonsense replacement boots the next day when another less technical pair of boots were purchased. A manufacturing error that Jim and Sam sorted within minutes. This is where Basecamp went above and beyond to ensure I was satisfied and confident with the whole experience. Customer service you pray for...and they deliver.

I Return to basecamp time and time again - continually supportive and more knowledgeable than any other outfitter (outdoors) Jim, the owner is a legend in his field and is a great person to fit you for your clothing. Having spent lots there I will continue to shop there. The stock is quite simply- the best available!! Well worth a visit!!!

Having been to Polar Arctic environments during my time serving in the UK Commando Forces I was intrigued to see a shop appear in Princetown, Devon which was full of winter environment clothing, skis, equipment, books and the list goes on.
Whilst looking around the shop I noticed that Base Camp offer courses in the Polar Arctic skills and all the stock in the shop is tried and tested out in the Polar Arctic by explorers who had signed up to Ice - Warrior Training.

There is something for everyone from summer day walker on Dartmoor to the most experienced Solo Arctic Explorers.

I left the shop with a smile on my face and was eager to return and sign up to some great courses on offer.

Cracking independent technical outdoor and expedition equipment shop. Thank goodness we still have some of these left, run by passionate outdoors professionals who know their stuff, to take on the Mccamping franchises. I would encourage anyone to make the effort to travel to Princetown to experience their brilliant service.

Basecamp is a mind opening shop. You can find everything you need for a walk through Dartmoor up to gear you need for an Expedition to the polar region. It is worth to speak to Jim to learn more about his future Expedition or just listen to some really interesting stories about his experiences in the polar region. It is a great place to be.

I entered the store slightly before opening, still a bit sleepy from my disrupted night camping in the rain.
I was given a warm welcome by the lovely lady at the counter, and asked if she could assist me. I mentioned that I was looking for some hiking shoes that were somewhat waterproof! As I stood in a puddle made from my own shoes that had become drenched the night before, trudging through sodden moorland.
I was unsure on the brand, not having heard of it before...but she reassured me and quickly went to find my size shoe in the back. Shortly returning with the shoe I had requested, plus one that wasn't on the shelf.
Cynical me thought she was trying to pull a fast one and offer me a more expensive shoe...not the case at all. In fact it was a less expensive shoe, and she even offered military discount!
All in all, a lovely experience and a well stocked store with a wide variety of mid to high end outdoor brands.

Since my last visit, the shop has been transformed. Still the heat service based on knowledge and experience, but the range of stock and across a whole range of activities has increased. I bought a pair.of Scarpa Terra GTX, which fit and perform brilliantly. Thanks Jim. Worth a trip to Prince town to explore the shop!

Jim is unrivalled in terms of excellent, independent and knowledgeable advice. He is totally focussed on customer requirements. We cannot recommend him and his shop highly enough.

Basecamp is a shop that sells outdoor kit. The best outdoor kit. There is no cheap flimsy that’ll do stuff here. This is quality gear. You want a waterproof- here you’ll get the very best.
What sets this shop apart is Jim. Jim, the owner has worked in and around the globe in very rural, cold, wet , dangerous locations and as such has tested all the gear there is on offer. Mountain equipment, montane, sorrel and Keen are but some of the brands represented at basecamp. Fitting of this gear is also something basecamp offer. Experts my no mistakes.
