I've absolutely loved this ride since it open when I was a kid! It really does make me smile, so it definitely lives up to its name! It has gotten a little rougher over the years but that's expected of a rollercoaster, I see no other faults than that. It's great when going on solo trips as it has a single rider queue! The staff when I visited last (25/05/24) were very friendly which helped make my day! Overall amazing ride, can't wait to come back and ride it again!

Awesome ride! The queue usually moves fairly quickly.
Height restriction is 1.4m.
I'm a size 20uk and fit comfortably in the seats.

Probably the best roller coaster I've even experienced, coming for a roller coaster geek! I loved all 14 inversions, and I didn't get the slightest bit dizzy! I would've gone again if it didn't close for the firework spectacular, but that show was beautiful too so it's fine :) I'll be back in a few years, and I bet it'll still be as amazing!

Wicked! First time riding this but BE PREPARED TO STAY IN THE QUEUE FOR 2 HOURS. I'd recommend queueing for this ride soon as you get in, (even though you may still be waiting over 1 hour) as it's so popular and has 14 hoops in 4 minutes. Such a good ride for the adrenaline junkies. I know the whole purpose is for the buzz feeling but close your eyes if you don't really like heights, it helps lol. Also, I would rather purchase queue jump tickets because by the time you are waiting 2 plus hours for the rides you only ride on max 5 or 6. I missed out on 3 so next time will be purchasing queue jump.

The best steal rollercoasters 🎢 I’ve ever been on all the twists/turns and loop de loops. An absolute pure thrill from start to finish! There’s an option for single rider which is nice compared to other rides if you’re by yourself or not fussed if you sit next to who you’re with. Meaning you might have more of an opportunity to go on the ride more times and shorter wait times than stated in the board or the app.

Loved it! Best ride in the park. Overall, it is smooth and comfortable, given that it turns you upsode down several times. We opted for the single riders queue as the wait was around 75 minutes. We got on in about 25 minutes.

Best value ride in terms of length you’re on it compared to how long you have to wait. We were in line for 90 minutes which is pretty long. The music while waiting drives you nuts too! But a great rollercoaster nevertheless

Amazing but looking a bit ropey in appearance these days and needs some TLC, also developing a bad rattle if you're on the back of a carriage, though some people enjoy that.

Still lucky to have this at Alton Towers though. I definitely belong to the Smiler.

Had so much fun! One of the best ride in Alton Towers. However, expect to wait in queue for over 1h+ but, it is worth it!!!

Excellent ride. The very first drop and curve straight out of the gate gives a hint to the experience awaiting. Seems like a short ride when it initially slows, until you see HALFWAY written on the walls! Someone fainted in the car in front, as the loops and curves are constant. Recommend.

I visited Alton Towers on opening day this year (16/03/24). The queue times were about 40 - 70 mins all day. Amazing ride.
Worth the wait. Would 100% reccomend. BUT BE PREPARED TO QUEUE. On a busy day (especialy in summer) the queues can reach 120 mins+.

went twice in 1 day, 5 minute queues each time. 100% worth it if you go, a record breaking coaster (with a bit of bad history) that is lots of fun to ride. it has lots of loops and inversions. overall 15/10 would ride again

Amazing ride. Would love to go on again a couple more times but the wait was too long.

Great ride and experience. Loved the 14 inversions from start to finish. Didn't mind the queue as it was worth the wait.

Fabous day out, went on a Sunday not too busy but still had atmosphere, smiler is two rides in one, stage one slightly less intense than second stage, 14 loops come off walking sideways.. Kids went on it 5 times..

This has to be the most amazing ride there is. Absolutley brilliant. Down side can be a massive que. People with epilepsy not advised as the room that you enter has flashing lights. I did see one person have a episode while in there and was quite scary to witness. The staff took ages to get to him and were useless to be honest. It was the people queuing who came to his attention.

You can’t beat The Smiler! Was so hesitant to ride this after what happened but tried it for the first time this year and loved every second. The vertical lift hill is very scary but in a fun way - you kind of feel like you’re falling backwards and your bum leaves the seat. You lose track of how many times you’re upside down but the first barrel roll out of the station was the best surprise!

It’s also well worth using the single rider queue (the only one in the park) as I just walked right on.

Incredible ride. Fast, thrilling, non-stop action. I would say it's even better than Nemesis. My only warning is I did feel a bit sick after riding, it didn't bother me but it might bother others. Even so, I HIGHLY recommend this rollercoaster!

Top tip: Use the single rider queue. You may get separated from friends while riding, but it shortened what would've been a 20-30 minute queue to a 2 minute queue for me.
