The windmill is up a lane shared with the House in the Clouds. Both are great to look at but, unfortunately, neither is open to visitors.

I remember visiting the windmill just after the end of the 2nd world war. My family rented a cottage by the windmill (there was a row of lived in cottages in a lane by the windmill). We would watch the mill-workers and then walk to the beach which had railway tracks and us children would get in the trucks and the grownups would push us along the beach. On the short distance back to the cottage we would stop at a small shop and post office and buy ovaltine sweets. I live in Herne Hill and a couple of weeks ago I found a lovely water colour of the windmill by Geoff Mallett dated 1998.

A nice windmill that is well looked after and open to the public certain times of the year. Well worth a visit

Lovely place to visit with loads of character.
Thorpeness is a lovely old fashioned place with a lot of charm. Visited the mere, the tea shop, the windmill and the house in the clouds. All very well worth a visit. Would recommend

Nice place to visit, not commercialised which is also a plus. Good cafe, boating lake and beach (although stoney).
