Thanga House is a multilayered experience of finesse, great architecture and little things that spell attention to detail. Located on Goldsmith Street, the place has a historical ring to it with the added sound of the waves lapping nearby. Every corner is very thoughtfully done and our room (Silver) was very comfortable. It has a private dipping pool which was almost clean (just request the caretaker to clean it and he'll do it for you, simple!) and what really stands out is the serenity of the place! The host kept me in the loop and the staff was helpful with whatever we needed. The breakfast was a simple helping of Dosa and accompaniments, it was perfectly splendid. Very homely. They were even careful to our request of coffee not being strong. A very lovely experience overall.

The new rooms are very cute designed. It is a heritage home stay very quiet, by the beach and beautiful view of the sea.
The terrace on top is perfect to do yoga at sunrise or sunset, and has a nice breeze.
The ladies on service are super cool , very discreet and efficient.
It is like being at home.
I love the simplicity of the bathroom and the cleanliness.

The food is homely and delicious, vegetarian & vegan and not súper spicy.
It is a súper get away.

A delightful house just off the beach road, a short walk from the fort. Delicious home-cooked food made by warm and welcoming staff, and very comfortable rooms decorated with beautiful antique furniture. I felt like a princess from start to finish!

Had wonderful stay here, if you are looking for classy, peaceful stay in a heritage spot. I would suggest you Thanga house strongly.

The feel of an Dutch architect, lively antique collections, room atmosphere lovely helpers are defiantly applaudable.

The owner/in charge is also cool and approachable for concerns.

Lovely aesthetics, very instagrammabale, super helpful staff and a stunning view from the terrace. The linens in the rooms extremely cozy, soft and comfortable! I truly enjoyed my stay thereafter! Would definitely recommend Thanga House to everyone looking for a niche get-away!

Backstory: We booked at a highly average but affordable Airbnb nearby, and reached Tharangambadi at lunch time, having skipped dinner the night before. The plan was to grab lunch at Neemrana's Bungalow By The Beach. However, they were closed for visitors who weren't staying in the premises because of Covid. So I checked out G Maps and looked for nearby places, and began calling them. Thanga House was one of them, I'm not sure why they aren't part of lists online regarding their food/stay.

The Place: Since their food is freshly made, they requested us to come after 1.5 hours. Goldsmith Road is extremely charming, I'm not sure why, but it is the most good looking lane in Tharangambadi. The hotel itself is very beautiful. Great architecture, cute aesthetic touches, lots of greenery. After lunch, the sweet staff let us check out the gorgeous vine draped staircase and look out from the terrace at the sea. We really regretted having not stayed in Thanga House.

The Food: Take into consideration that we were starving. But my partner is a non vegetarian and so he wasn't all that excited seeing the menu. They were all traditional Tamilian vegetarian items, but everything was so tasty and satisfying! The portions were good, but we finished off almost everything. I am a fan of pickles, and they had several delicious varieties. Cabbage kuttu, beans and carrot poriyal, buttermilk, potato sambhar, tomato pepper rasam, rice, appalam, rawa Kesari for Rs. 550. It was all hot, fresh and served in a lovely table setting. The rasam is probably the most tasty we've ever had and we could've had double the quantity! We left extremely happy.

The Regret: We had fixed dinner at the Airbnb we were staying at. Later on, the owner of Thanga messaged us saying that he could organise a dinner on their terrace under the full moon. Unfortunately we were unable to cancel our pre-booked dinner. And we grumbled all night because we missed out on a moonlit dinner at Thanga. We only managed to console ourselves by deciding that we would come back and stay and eat at Thanga House soon!

Awesome and great place 👍👍👍👍.

You seem to be teleported to Denmark in the 1600's

This heritage bungalow by the beach is an excellent stay.

It's homely and at the same time you have all the amenities of a star hotel.

The danish fort is near by and walk along the turcoise blue beach which is awesome. 24 hours you can hear the sound of the waves.

The menu is limited and it's pure vegetarian. In case you need 1 or 2 dishes of your preference, you need to inform them in advance and they would be gladly preparing them.

The owners Tanay and Etasha , their services are par excellent and I would strongly recommend couple of nights stay at this place and visit lot of important temples which are situated in the vicinity of 7 to 8 Kms.

Kudos to the newly married couple who are doing a wonderful job.

We only went there for lunch. Prashant was really helpful in setting up the lunch for us. Thanga house was beautiful and the staff courteous. We had an amazing meal of traditional homely Tamil food that just hit the right spot. The tomato pepper rasam was amazing maybe the best rasam I've had in my life. The owner/manager also mentioned that there was a moonlit dinner on the rooftop but alas we were not able to make it. I will definitely be coming back here to stay and enjoy the place.

For any traveller, this should be a lifetime visit - sight of the Turquoise blue beach, sound of the waves and cool breeze during the course of the day ! The Thanga House is an awesome place to stay and the facilities are great! The food is homely and freshly prepared! Breakfast consists of homemade jams and continental dishes and South Indian varieties! Lunch and dinner are according to the menu they give but it can be altered according to the taste of the customers !The Danish fort is a stones throw from this place ! Many famous South Indian temples are in the vicinity of 7 to 8 kms! The Goldsmith street where the bungalow is located looks like an old Danish Village street! The owner couple - Tanay and Etasha took extreme care of all us during the course of our stay and ensured that we had the best of the time! Their hospitality was great and cannot be described in words! I strongly recommend every traveller to stay at Thanga House ! Just FYI - Tranquebar is the most ozone rich place in India!

Tranquebar’s local name is Tharangambadi, means “land of the singing waves.” Located in Tamil Nadu, this coastal town is on the Coromandel Coast, on the edge of Bay of Bengal. Tranquebar used to be the base of Danish settlements in the 17th-century. During that period, the Danish built Fort Dansborg, or what is locally known as the Danish Fort. Just a short walking distance from the fort is this beautifully restored Structure called the Thanga house . If you are visiting the Thanga house , all you need is an open mind, your favourite book and a camera . Tranquebar takes you back in time and also is a great testament of how the locals have slowly engrained themselves within this abandoned danish settlement. In time , tranquebar has become a surreal mix of 17th century danish architecture and the Tamil quarters. It’s a beautiful amalgamation of the foreign and the local. important point to remember : once you are in tranquebar, you are far away from the city’s hustle and bustle. Therefore, if one visits the Thanga house, one could expect simple home cooked meals which is perfect for a place like Tranquebar. There are no restaurants, shops or even hospitals in close proximity, so it’s best to be content with the food that’s being served . If you are a foodie, I would recommend carrying your favourite snacks with you. But, pls refrain from littering your snack packs and act responsibly. Moreover, Thanga house experience is beyond food . The stay at the Thanga house is extremely calming to one’s senses. The terrace has a magical view of the ocean and the rooms here have a serene vibe . One can always hear the sound of the ocean waves from the rooms. Thanga house, Tranquebar is a vibe and one needs to get it to enjoy it . Not for everyone. If you are a seasoned traveler looking for some calm garnished with some class, Thanga house could def be one of your best bets. Best time to visit - anytime between November and February .
