ഭസ്മകുളം
ശബരിമലയിൽ കുളിക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള ഒന്നാമത്തെ പുണ്യസ്ഥലം ഭസ്മകുളമാണ്. ഇത് സന്നിധാനത്തിന്റെ പടിഞ്ഞാറ് ഭാഗത്തു സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു.തീർത്ഥാടകർ ഇവിടെ വിശുദ്ധജലത്തിൽ മുങ്ങി ശുദ്ധി പ്രാപിക്കുന്നു. ശ്രീരാമന്റെ സാന്നിധ്യത്തിൽ ശബരി അഗ്നിയിൽ പ്രവേശിച്ചുവെന്നും അതിന്റെ ഫലമായി അവളുടെ മൃതശരീരം ദഹിച്ചു ഭസ്മ മായി എന്നും ഐതിഹ്യം പറയുന്നു. ഈ ഐതിഹ്യത്തിൽ നിന്നാണ് ഈ കുളത്തിന് ഭസ്മക്കുളം പേര് ലഭിച്ചത്. ഭസ്മ കുളത്തിൽ മുങ്ങി കുളിക്കുന്നത് ആഗ്രഹ സഫല്യത്തിന് ഉത്തമ മാണെന്ന് വിശ്വസിച്ചു പോരുന്നു. തീർഥാടകർ നിരന്തരം ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നുണ്ടെങ്കിലും കുളത്തിലെ വെള്ളം എപ്പോഴും ശുദ്ധമായി സൂക്ഷിക്കുന്നു. വെള്ളം നിറക്കുന്നതിനുംയാദേഷ്ടം വറ്റിച്ചു പുതിയ വെള്ളം നിറക്കുന്നതിനും സൗകര്യം ഉണ്ട്.ഇവിടെ എണ്ണയും സോപ്പും ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നത് നിരോധിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

భస్మక్కుళం (పవిత్ర స్నానం చేసే స్థలం): శబరిమల వద్ద స్నానానికి ఒక పవిత్ర స్థలం భస్మకులం. ఇది సన్నిధానానికి పశ్చిమాన ఉంది. యాత్రికులు ఇక్కడ పవిత్ర జలంలో మునిగి శుద్ధి పొందుతారు. శ్రీరాముని సన్నిధిలో శబరి అగ్నిప్రవేశం చేసిందని, ఫలితంగా ఆమె మృత దేహం దహించబడిందని పురాణాలు చెబుతున్నాయి. ఈ పురాణం నుండి ఈ చెరువుకు దాని పేరు వచ్చింది. యాత్రికులు నిరంతరం ఉపయోగిస్తున్నప్పటికీ చెరువులోని నీరు ఎప్పుడూ తాజాగా మరియు శుభ్రంగా ఉంచబడుతుంది. ఇక్కడ నూనె మరియు సబ్బును ఉపయోగించడం నిషేధించబడింది.

Bhasmakkulam (Place for sacred dip):
One sacred place for bath at Sabarimala is Bhasmakulam. This is on the western side of the Sannidhanam. Pilgrims get purified by their dip in the holy water here. Legend says that Sabari entered the fire in the presence of Sri Rama and as a result her mortal remains were consumed. This pond has its name derived from this legend. The water in the pond is ever kept fresh and clean in spite of the constant use by pilgrims. Using oil and soap here are prohibited.
