Here in Thekkady . I prefer to get online tickets at least one day before your journey. And try to book the morning 11:15 boating. Because at this time there are some chances for animals sightings. After the chances are very less. 11:15 am , 1:45 pm and 3:15 pm are the boating times. If you prefer buying tickets from the ticket counter, be there at least 2 hours before the boating time. And the important thing, you can’t drive your vehicles to the boat landing everybody need to park there vehicle in the KTDC parking spot 3 kms away from the boat landing, and need to catch up the govt. tourist bus till landing. Note : every services needs payment. No tickets for under 5 .

Excellent place. Book your tickets in advance. Take an early morning trip on the boat in order to see some wild life. You can see the wild boars and elephants in the pictures. You have to be lucky to find tigers.

Enjoyed Elephant Ride, Kathakkali and Kalarippayattu.

Elephant ride was superb. The staff was kind to elephants and the elephants were well trained.

Kathakkali was a great experience. They explained all expressions and stances before the show and also had a live demo with an audience member.

Kalarippayattu was the cherry on the cake. Supremely skilled fighters with great precision and coordination.

A best place to enjoy the stay and experience the boating and forest trucking. KTDC HOTEL available even in the centre of the lake. Bookings made through online customer can go by their own vehicles, otherwise no private vehicle allowed, bus service available from checkpost to lake operated by Periyar wildlife sanctuary.

It is one of the best place that could be choosen for a one day trip with your friends or families.The park is inside a forest away from the city rush and sounds.The place is very peaceful indeed and relaxing we can get that feel as we are walking through a forest with the birds and animal sounds.The place is clean and taken well care of.There is boating facility available here and to reach the lake we can walk or hire a cycle (ticket has to be taken for that).
The best part i loved here is the cycling part we can slowly watch the scene and cycle with our beloved ones.There is greenery everywhere and the image is unforgettable.This is that place that you are looking for that will give a memory of a lifetime .

Better to take boat ride on 3.30 pm

Thekkady park is a wonderful attraction, you get to enjoy the magnificent beauty of nature and wildlife.
Especially you get to see Elephants, cattles (non-domestic), exotic birds, flora and other wild creatures and species.
There is even a boat cruise and small pedal boats that one can enjoy, but I guess they operate only during seasons, cause one time when I went, couple of years back they didn’t allow anyone to self row.
The weather is awesome too.

On the whole you will definitely have a wonderful time and experience with your loved ones, families or even friends.

One tip to visitors. Don't get tempted to conversation of fake people posing government appointed tour guides. Visit Thekkady tourist information and ticket counter which is really nice and they will answer your queries and you can book everything from there. Have a safe and happy trip

The fake tree house experience was nice

Periyar tiger reserve best place for wonderful views . People who wants to enjoy nature and wildlife will enjoy . You need to take ticket and forest staff will take us in their boats. It's a very rare site to get glimpse of tiger so don't keep hopes however few another animals can be seen.

Today, we went for the day-long Bamboo Rafting program in Periyar Tiger Reserve. We had booked it online as the tickets are very limited and we didn't want to miss it. We reached the reserve at 7:30 am, the program started by 8:30 am and ended by 5 pm. It includes ~10 km hiking and ~3 hours rafting. Enroute, the accompanying forest guides will show the spices found in the forest. One is also given an oar to try her hand at rowing and it's pure fun! We saw mongoose, a baby elephant, some wild boars and skeletal remains of a dead elephant! All in all, it's a day well spent

Beauty of nature, Wildness, all the nature is combined here.Thekkady is situatef in idukki district Kerala.There are many adventure events are there like boating, trekking, camping, bamboo ragting etc.I recommend. The event Naturewalk This is a trekking program about 5kms through the shire if the lake and thtough the dense tigre reserve fotest.There is a large possibility to see wild animaos like deers, bisons, elephants and if you are lucky u can see The real.king of the forest Tiger.There is about 48 tigers in periyar tiger reserve.The details of the trekking progrms are This is can be done a group of 6 members and atleast 4 memebers and each one can pay 350 rs plus taxes and it is aroumd 440 something.Timings are 7Am 7.30am 8 am 9.30 am 2.30pm 3.30pm etc.there is a guide fir the trekking.i recimend 7am treking because u can feel.the freshness cold musty atmisphere sounds if birds etc etc.And bewarr of leeches but u can use an extra soacks and ut is provided from the office for protection against leeches.

The sanctuary is famous  for its dense evergreen, semi-evergreen, moist deciduous forests and savanna grass lands. It is home to herds of elephants, sambar, tigers, gaur, lion-tailed macaques and Nilgiri langurs.
