Vagnsstaðir HI Hostel

We had a wonderful stay in this simple and clean hostel in October 2023. We had two towels for both of us so that was not a problem (as listed in the other reviews, so maybe they fixed that!). The view was stunning. Kitchen was orderly and had we had everything we needed. Total self check-in and check-out and out, but that went smoothly too. We would have like to have met a local person who works there at reception. But not the biggest deal since it is a budget hostel. The location for experiencing the south coast is perfect. Also, keep in mind this is a travel hostel, I am so grateful that they still exist!!!

Considering it is shown as a hostel, it was so quiet and comfortable in the new building it could pass for a major hotel. Breakfast was excellent with a great variety of cold cuts (4), most places have one or two only. It was too rainy in the morning to walk out to the beach but from the dining room it looked like it could be interesting. Be aware that this place is fairly remote and there is nowhere close to get dinner…bring it or eat before you get here.

The new annex is very plush, but I'm happy in the original hostel which feels more authentic. Breakfast buffet well stocked and the lady doing the serving made sure levels stayed high throughout sitting. Location great for the glaciers

I had an awesome experience at this hostel! So they were fully booked when I came with my friend who had a reservation, she was so worried about me not being able to find another place that she offered to give me sheets, blankets, and a pillow and sleep on their couch in the living room, which no other Hostel would be willing to do. Eventually someone didn't show up so I got to sleep in a bed. But overall it's a very very welcoming, friendly, clean, and cozy place to stay. I'd recommend staying here during your Iceland adventures!

Nice new building (if you order for the new building). Modern rooms with bathroom ... Very nice. Lovely breakfast. Calm! Only remark is that the kitchen to cook in the evening is in a other building which is to small.

Very clean, large family room, very close to main road, very quite, easy to find the location and excellent place to stay if you would like to visit Hofn and Jokulsarlon in a day.

Ideal lounging place for all kinds of people. Kitchen is stuffed with all kinds of utensils who want to cook themselves and believe me you will have to cook yourself as the nearest town is 2 hour drive. This place is in the middle of nowhere which makes it even more spectacular.

We booked a private room, it's new, very big and clean room. Beds are immensely comfortable. Waking up in the morning with mountain view is great feeling.

It's in the middle of no where which is not necessarily a bad thing in Iceland. We managed to see the Norther Lights from the backyard when we could not see it on tours we paid for. Very good location to stay if you're planning to do the largest glacier in Iceland and diamond beach which are both highly recommended.

A quiet hostel between Hofn and Vik on a family farm. Kitchen is well equipped. Wifi was strong and reliable. There were only a few other guests there during my stay so it was pretty quite and very enjoyable and relaxing.

This hostel has a modern annex with great rooms and bathrooms with heated floors. The breakfast was served in a room that looked like a trendy coffee shop. It was more like a hotel than a hostel.

Simona is a wonderful and helpful person. It was her first day working and she went an extra mile to help us. She helped us with check in and late check out. The stay was comfortable for a night. They provide very basic breakfast.

The cottage is 10 - 15 meters away from the main building where you can use the kitchen, showers, Wi-Fi etc. The cottage has 1 table and 4 chairs. 2 bunk beds (lower beds are double and upper beds are normal size).
Vagnsstaðir is 28 KM east of Jökulsárlón (The Glacier Lagoon) and 50 KM west of Höfn town.

Nice place, not so busy in winter so we really enjoy it. Completely fournished by kitchen and showers. Make sure to arrive there with some food because the nearest supermarket is in Höfn. There is breakfast if you ask.

Close to the lagoon, familly room are very nice for 4 persons. Owners are very helpfull. Kitchen and bathrooms are clean! Perfect on your road trip through the south!

It was a good choice to stay here. The place is simple, but it has everything you need for a day or two. The breakfast is good and the cleanliness spotless. Staff is hospitable and considerate.

Stayed for one night, clean and very nice room with bathroom. Shared kitchen opened 24/7 where you can cook and eat your food. Friendly staff.
