We were here to photograph a wedding last summer. This is for sure one of the most beautiful venue in Italy. The vibes, the staff, the food, everything was perfect. We can't wait to return here to photograph more weddings. Here are some shots we took. Tozzi Studio PHOTO and VIDEO.

I am a destination wedding photograher. This time I had a pleasure to visit La Badia di Orvieto - romanesque medieval abbey, located in Umbria region of Italy, is known for its stunning cliff-top setting and has become a protected historical site. Because the interior of the abbey is adorned with various artworks, including frescoes and sculptures, the guests from all over the world experience Italian art in a more intimate and direct way.
Therefore there is one particular spot that commands all the attention. It is on outdoor dining area under a gothic archway between two walls which you will be able to see in few photos below. And even if Italian summers are hot, the experience in La Badia di Orvieto could be compared to a serene oasis, offering a tranquil escape from the typical summer heat, due to old, cooling high walls and multiple cypress trees, olive trees and potted palm trees. The hotel is beautiful and set in an old monastery, so quite historic. The rooms are good and spacious too. The views around are beautiful.
The hotel has a good breakfast spread, but not too many more food options for lunch/dinner, but then Orvieto town has so manu restaurants.
The staff was helpful and polite
The location is very beautiful but unless one has a car, it's a bit complicated. Taxis are slightly sparse and need to be booked in advance. Overall a great place to stay.

Visiting La Badia is like stepping into a fairytale.

My husband and I held our wedding at La Badia di Orvieto last month (finally, after having to postpone for the last two years due to covid). It was quite simply the most wonderful weekend we could have ever imagined.

First of all, the place itself is pure magic. We had booked La Badia as our venue on the basis of photos we had seen (our fantastic wedding planner had previously held a wedding there and the photos were gorgeous). As soon as we arrived at the venue for our wedding weekend and walked around the grounds, we felt as if we were in a fairytale, walking back in time.

Some of the reviews comment that the hotel isn’t modern enough- but that’s part of the magic of this place and I think if you visit this hotel you should manage your expectations in terms of modernity. The rooms are beautiful and tastefully appointed and clean. They are not overly modern though and nor would I want them to be. You feel the entire hotel is steeped in history and that is the beauty of it. I’ve never been to another hotel like it.

The breakfast at La Badia is also very good - the food was all high quality and there’s a large variety of food (and even some gluten free options). The bar is also open all day and they make absolutely fantastic sandwiches - the ingredients are excellent, especially their bread.

The most breathtaking part of this hotel is the Sala Capitolare where the arch is located- this is where we had our wedding dinner and it was spectacular. However, all of the grounds are stunning. The chapel on the grounds where we had our ceremony was so beautiful and serene. I couldn’t imagine a more perfect spot for our ceremony.

Our guests also made good use of the swimming pool and tennis court over the course of the weekend. That weekend in May was about 30 degrees Celsius so our guests really enjoyed being able to get into the pool to cool off.

Moving onto the fantastic people- they worked tirelessly during our wedding weekend to coordinate with our wedding planner to ensure that all went seamlessly. They truly cared about making sure we had a wonderful weekend, and we so appreciated their kindness and dedication. Rossella, Andreina, Tommaso, Manuel - thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all your hard work, dedication and kindness. La Badia is the most magical place, and that weekend will be in our memories forever. We were pinching ourselves the whole weekend as we couldn’t believe how lucky we were to get married in such a stunning location. I can’t say enough positive things about this hotel. I would 100% recommend a stay here - soak up all the beauty it has to offer. We can’t wait to return!

A charming place located in a medieval monastery with a beautiful view of Orvieto. Nice and helpful staff. It is possible to park your car in front of the building. I recommend it especially for people in love with medieval architecture.

We stayed at La Badia for two nights. I cannot say enough about this unique facility. We upgraded to a suite with a tremendous view of Orvieto. Just amazing.
Great location, just a 10 minute drive to the large parking garage with escalators up to the heart of Orvieto.
Friendly service, helpful staff, great breakfasts every day and the Ristorante la Badia is truly Michelin Star quality. Highly recommended.

Excellent location, this is a unique place and we enjoyed it very much. The staff was very polite and helpful. We had the cheapest room category (I believe) which still had a nice large room, the only small thing we missed was a shower (bathtub is there). Nevertheless we would love to go there again.

Spectacular, Stunning and amazing are just some of the words I would use to describe this venue. My wife and I had our wedding here in June 2019 and it was the best decision we ever made. We are both from Ireland and so travelled to Italy one year before the date to look at venues. All in all we looked at 24 venues across all of Italy and La Badia was our final stop. We wanted a venue close to a town that could cater for over 100 travelling guests. As the venue itself is located less than five minute drive from the town, this meant that all out guests could experience an Italian wedding and an Umbrian town. The town itself has so much history, nice shops, narrow streets, churches, and fantastic restaurants.

As soon as we checked in for the first time and walked out to the courtyard, we knew we had found our venue. The venue overlooks the cliffs of Orvieto and the views across the valley are breath taking. This venue ticks all the boxes. Exclusive use, Rooms on site, Close to beautiful town, Church on the grounds and amazing food.

We didn’t have a wedding planner but Andreina, Tommaso, Rossella & team are all so helpful and accommodating. They helped us all along the way. We did travel to the venue once more to do a tasting and speak to a Florist.

The day of the wedding was perfect. After breakfast I was able to go for a swim to unwind while the bridal party got ready. We had a catholic ceremony in the church at 3 pm followed by an aperitif in the garden overlooking Orvieto. From there we moved to the Archway and had dinner while the sun set, followed by Dessert in the court yard. By this stage, our band Guty and Simone had already set up here and so we were able to dance into the night. The food on the day was incredible.

We can’t wait to celebrate future anniversaries at this venue.

A magic place.

If you are visiting Orvieto, there's a good chance that you're interested in history and the beauties of ancient Italy. If that's the case, there's no better place to stay than Hotel La Badia. The main structures were built between the 6th and the 12th Century, and when you're here you're fully immersed in ancient Italy. The rooms are nicely refurbished and enjoy wonderful views over the Orvietan hills and the cliffs that surround the old city. The hotel is conveniently located between Orvieto and Civita di Bagnoregio ("The Dying City", another must).

The place has been gracefully restored. The staff is courteous and attentive and again, the place is unbeatable if you'd like to spend your nights in a fairy tale.

Amazing old hotel near orvieto which is a must see Town. Hotel price was very reasonable $120 CND for a good size room. The restaurant at the hotel was ok. But the food in orvieto town was better.
