Ristorante Grotte del Funaro Nuova Tourist

Another fortunate discovery for us in Orvieto. And very near to our hotel. We had gone to the same restaurant for three of our first four nights and last night decided to try something new. And are we glad we did! The restaurant has an enormous underground grotto where most people eat but we sat on the lovely patio, with a view of the countryside. From our first bite to our last, we were beyond thrilled to have discovered this place. For antipasti we had Panzanella and the Zucchini tartare. Both refreshing and flavourful ( everything tastes better in Italy!) then our pastas were nothing short of spectacular. Maltagliati with artichokes and Tagliatelle with lemon, lime, ginger and pink peppercorns. Again, beautifully served and delicious. We had an apple crumble and a coffee bavarois. A fitting finish to an incredible meal. And our server was lovely and very helpful. We loved it so much that we made reservations for dinner there again tonight!

Atmosphere is incredible, service very good, and food is great. Bread wasn’t the best, almost seemed dried out but maybe because it was at the end of the day, still ate it. Pizza, cheese, and dessert was delicious.

After travelling for several weeks this restaurant had some of the best meals we’ve had. The pork was so good! Atmosphere is incredible being underground in a cave.

This is one of the best restaurants in the Umbria/Tuscany region. We eat there about once a month and have never been disappointed. It is in an ancient Etruscan grotto. You can even watch them make your homemade pasta. I highly recommend this great place.

My husband and I have been living in Orvieto for 18 months and finally tried this place. We should have sooner...beautiful and romantic setting. We heard from some local people the food was great and it did not disappoint. Disclaimer : we don't eat meat and it is probably a highlight since they cook it over wood. I had the spigola which was delicious along with the ciccoria. My husband had the matagliata with eggplant and sundried tomatoes. Evidently homemade, wonderful. We also had the crema catalana. We will be back

The food, service, and atmosphere were impeccable. The local wine selection and the white chocolate mousse were excellent in particular.

We found this place in Orvieto that looked really interesting and it sure was. Very difficult to spot but when you walk in you go down a couple of flights of stairs into what looks like an ancient basement. Very cool atmosphere and really excellent food and service here. Definitely check it out if you’re in Orvieto!

The best truffle flavor ever! The staff is nice and kind, they serve the food very professionally, and the fillet beef steak with truffle sauce smells great.

One of the better meals we have had. Everything was fresh, authentic, and beautifully prepared.

This is not a showy place, but rather an incredible experience of eating dinner in an Etruscan cave, in a family restaurant that has been serving tasty handmade food for 5 decades.

The raviolino with chianina was an amazing dish. Simple, balanced, and tasty. We also got the pizza of the house, mixed grill, and farro salad. All were exceptional.

The service is very good as well- we’ve had some terrible service in Orvieto (10x worse than Roma or Napoli) - with prompt care and attention. Again, nothing fancy, just solid and very good. Very nice people and owners who were there seeing over things and chatting with customers.

Would recommend strongly.

Recommended by our hotel and were not disappointed. Good food, friendly staff and an authentic Italian feel. Situated underground it has its own unique style and can't be compared to anything else. There is also the opportunity to eat outside so people who can't make it down the stairs can also enjoy the fabulous food on offer here. The menu is a bit more up market so if you are expecting burger and chips you might be disappointed. It's definitely more for the food adventure. I have never tasted a tiramisu like it and it put all others to shame. Now I know how it should taste! And it was a delight!!!

Amazing. Particular location…You are eating inside the cave. We had dinner while there was live music. The food was top 🔝. Wine is very good.

Best restaurant in the city for sure and I think they know it 😂 I've been to Milan, Florence, Rimini, Tuscany, Rome, Bolognia, and I think this was the best place. Nothing beats Italian food in Tuscany for me, especially in these medieval cities. They're not tourist traps, they're actual farm to table stuff. I had truffle here, and then went to a truffle specialty restaurant in Rome, and this place was so much better. I ordered so much and it was so good. Recommend the cheese plate with truffle honey and the roast pig with roast potatoes.

Roast pig was good, but I tell you, the roast potato they serve here as a side... is insane... , I've traveled the world and this was the best roasted potatoes I've ever eaten, it's funny lol but it's true. It's soft but its not like cooked potato soft, you cant cut it with a fork, that's how chewy it was.

It's located underground as well which was very cool.

Great food and friendly service in a cave..who could ask for more? We were sent here by our guesthouse host and loved it. Definitely recommend it!

Very nice settlement within a cave, we had a fantastic pizza (wood oven) and delicious wine we loved it. Staff very friendly.

Excellent meal and hosts! Be brave and go with their meats and let them pair it for you with their wine. You can trust the host here as they know their stuff. And Omg don't forget the view, sit by a window! Absolutely would come back!

What an incredible meal and with service to match, I was recommended this restaurant by the owner of La Rosa Di Orvieto and what a good call it was. I had Rustico all’Orvietana (Panzanella, typical cold cuts, bruschetta with tomatoes and extra virgin olive oil) and Wild boar with sweet and sour sauce and grilled potatoes with a glass of Sangiovese Rosso. I would like to thank all involved for making my night so memorable, grazie a tutti.

The food was amazing and the atmosphere was wonderful. We're going back again in 5 days!

This restaurant is located in a cave with one end open allowing a view of the town and valley below. The tables aren’t too crowded and the decor is very inviting. The service was excellent and the food was exceptional - our group had fresh pasta, a traditional pork dish, and pizza all of which were delicious. I wish that we had found this gem earlier in our stay in Orvieto! We would definitely return!

We had a great dinner, the location is unique and fantastic. We enjoyed the suckling pig, grill sampler, and boar ragu pasta, along with a couple yummy desserts 😁
