We decided to get lunch at Antica Trattoria dell’Orso on a recent trip to Orvieto based on the recommendation of a friend that lives in town. We love traditionally prepared food and when we travel we look for dishes and wine that are local, and this restaurant has both.

We started with a couple of antipasti. The fried pork-belly was amazing. It has been a while since I enjoyed US style bacon and this exceeded all expectations. It was flavorful, smokey and crunchy. We also ate a selection of sliced meats. I hadn’t had this in a while so I might have enjoyed it more than I should have, but it was great as well.

We enjoyed a regional pasta called Umbricelli, which is a fresh pasta that was chewy and held up to the sauce well. I had it with a cinghiale ragù and truffles and it was delicious. I believe the pasta, sauce and truffles are all Umbrian delicacies and I was so happy we came to this restaurant.

For dessert we enjoyed a pistacchio semifreddo and a torta di mele, both of which paired well with the strong espresso, which finished off our fantastic lunch.

Fantastic lunch spot our favorite meal of the trip yet! Highly recommend their beef tartare, so fresh that it was sweet! The umbrichelli Al truffles was also perfected- Al denti umami flavors with a homey sauce…. So good! The service staff have fair English and the restaurant even had Wi-Fi! Wonderful atmosphere with fantastic food! Seating in an alleyway for outdoors, and very charming interior.

The staff made great suggestions and we tasted a few amazing dishes! Yum!

Best dinner in Italy. Super fresh, family-owned. Go here! Updated June 16, 2022: Still my go-to spot in Orvieto for a family-run restaurant. You can probably get a seat for lunch but recommend reservations for dinner. Tucked in an alley, out of the way, but definitely worth finding! Updated May, 2023: Never disappoints. Like going home for an authentic Umbrian meal. Pasta with wild boar ragu and fresh truffles is my favorite. Nice wine selection as well.

This is hands-down our favourite place in Orvieto. We've eaten here over a hundred times and the food never disappoints. I cannot recommend this place enough - stop here if you want a delicious meal - but book in advance as it's often full!

I have eaten here twice, and the food is a cut above. All the signature Italian skills are on display, flavorful foods, incredible ambiance, comfortable service, inspired local dishes. You should make time to eat here if possible.

My husband and I had the most wonderful evening here in 2005. Gabrielle was the chef. It was a quiet night so he and our server joined us for the most memorable meal. Even got the recipe for a wonderful vegetable sauté. ❤

Excellent food & service, great spot for dinner.

Outstanding Orvieto style cuisine. Truffle lovers are going to be happy. Tortellini and other fresh pasta were excellent. Guinea hen in truffle sauce, pork shank, lamb chops all worthy of praise, perfectly done. Good to enjoy the street life nearby, too. Personal attention from staff, owner.

Delicious food! I had the ragu with truffles and my partner had the pork knuckle - both were great. Lovely service as well :)

Our host recommended this restaurant and it did not disappoint. Everything was fabulous from the staff, to the food, and the wine. It's small, so you'll want to make reservations.

Very nice place with wonderful dishes and perfect service. Vi came here for lunch and dinner on the same day and both times were great. Highly recommend! Especially the eggplant side dish, best I’ve ever had.

The quality and flavor of the food here is exceptional, and the atmospehere fits the menu perfectly. We were in town 4 days and ate here four times including taking an order of the grilled eggplant for our flight back to the States. Our server, Alba, was perfection every time- even with a full restaurant during peak dinner hours. This restaurant is one of the reasons we will be coming back to Orvieto again.

My wife and I have been in Orvieto for a month. We've eaten here 3 times, it is easily one of our favorite places. The staff is very friendly and the food is always amazing.
