Fortezza di Radicofani

I loved this place and the story about their version of Robin Hood. They have a cute restaurant and lots of places to see the most wonderful views.
It’s only a couple of euros to get in and the people running this are very friendly and have put in real effort to improve it.

To be honest I had no idea what this place was before I visited. We stopped here on our way to Rome, as we were leaving the Val D’Orcia. To be frank: the best views we saw of the Val D’Orcia were from here. There’s also a nice little museum here that explains the historical importance of this site.

It was an absolutely amazing experience. It's a beautiful place and if you are in the area and interested in castles and forts, it's a must see.

There is also a grill with great food right next to the Fort. The Fort itself has tons of information inside and has a great view over the area.

Entrance is €4 per person and it's definitely worth it to do it alone or as a group. The tight, windy staircases give you a great feel for the history of the place while also not feeling too claustrophobic. You can really envision the history that comes with the Fort.

The grounds are great to explore, and even better to read or have a picnic. Climb up the tower for the best views of Tuscany!

It was an amazing experience, but I have never been in a fortress. The view from the tower is incredible. My wife and I took some breath taking shots.

Such a wonderful place to visit. The staff were very friendly, and the fort had amazing views from the top.

It's quite a steep hike up to the top but I believe you can drive up and park too...we walked. The views and passageways were great. You can see forever. There's a cafe at the top too.

You can climb up to the top of the fortress (stairs only), but you can also walk around the ground level, the views are spectacular there.
There is also a small museum inside the fortress, but it is mostly in italian.

This is a great and impressive fortress with many levels of stone walls and a high tower from which you have a breathtaking view. Inside the tower there are a few charts and showcases explaining the history of the fortress. When we visited mid-June there were only a few people, so we practically had our own fortress for an hour ;-) It was a hot day in the valleys (30°C) but the cool winds on the mountain made it very pleasant.

Beautiful food and beautiful surroundings! Well worth a visit if you are staying in the area!!

The view from this place is incredible!!!!! You will be looking down at airplanes!!!! It is a rugged fortress that will have you imagining what medieval life was like. The trip up to the top of the tower is well worth the many steps you will climb. The cost to enter the grounds is 2 euro each.

Out of the way and without the tourist crowds this is a must authentic experience

Incredible views north over the Val d’orcia. Walking up the path from Radicofani is recommended but you’ll want to take a break at the little bar at the entrance before you tackle the fortress. Not much history info inside but worth a visit for the 360 degree views and impressive site.
