Ancient Etruscan archway from around 300 to 400 BC. You get done lovely views of the narrow streets but also the surrounding countryside.

We went there with a very good guide. She explained the history and what the wall endured during thousands of years. Beatiful views also.

Fantastic masterpiece of ancient and medieval architecture. Very well maintained! If you visit Volterra don't miss a visit to it! A nice short walk on the walls starts from there.

I love standing inside the gate and viewing the sunset in the valley below. The way the Porta all'Arco frames it is spectacular. Check out my photo.

Piękny portal do historii tego miejsca. Brama jest spuścizną sztuki etruskiej i późniejszych zmian rzymskich oraz średniowiecznych. Spacer od tej bramy do centrum Volterry to wyjątkowe doznanie. Byłem już w kilkunastu urokliwych miasteczkach, ale ta uliczka jest wyjątkowa.

Magnifique porte fortifiée dont la structure intérieure de l'appareil de pierre remonte aux temps étrusques de la cité. A ne surtout pas rater lorsque l'on visite Volterra.. Attention, car la pente qui mène de la porte au plateau central de la cité est d'une inclinaison très forte et l'ascension sera fort épuisante.

Bellissima porta alle mura della stupenda cittadina di Volterra. Forti richiami medioevali, centro storico grazioso, cibo gustoso e dintorni da vacanza perfetta. Stupendo l'anfiteatro anche di notte. Lo stile unico ispira foto e dettagli visivi straordinari! Da visitare assolutamente!

Ein beeindruckendes Bauwerk, auf jeden Fall den kleinen Abstecher wert (die Gassen sind alle sehr malerisch). Toller Blick auch durchs Tor auf die Umgebung.

Ворота, сложенные из массивных каменных блоков, были построены этрусками в I-IV веке до нашей эры. Немцы, в целях обезопасить себя от внезапных нападений партизан, пытались заставить жителей Вольтерры разрушить ворота, но люди отказались разрушать памятник и за одну ночь заложили кирпичами. О чём и гласит табличка, установленная на стене
