Ortahisar Castle

Nestled in the heart of Nevşehir, Turkey, the remarkable Ortahisar Castle stands proudly, offering a captivating glimpse into the region's past. As I ascended towards the castle, the panoramic views of Cappadocia unfolded before me, leaving me breathless at the beauty that surrounded this historical site. If you are not very good at climbing stairs don’t risk it!

The climb to the top is very steep. The view is definitely worth it.

30 TL admission. Pretty steep ladders. Nice views from the top.

It is a workout climbing up. But worth it, the views are amazing.

Absolutely worth it. We were authorized to go to the top. Amazing views at 360 degrees. Didn’t mind the steep stairs or the chains or even the narrow passages in the stone.
Be mindful if you’re tall (I’m 5’10) not to hit your head though.
Parking ticket grants one free entry.

Small town with this little castle. Is worth to visit. When you climb up you can see the beautiful view.

Outstanding place 👏, with lovely 360' views , in the night 🌙 whole town light up with worm lights, turn to magical, fabulous scenery all around, you don't want to live this place, just would like to freeze the momentum...

Great view of the surrounding area. Tickets are quite cheap. It was a fun climb, but a little steep! There are also amazing wine shops when you exit the castle!

Two major towering rock dwellings (Kalesi - Castle in Turkish) you must climb in Cappadocia are Uchisar Castle and this one - The Ortahisar.
Both of them are dramatic rock formations towering above their towns (15 min drive is between them) where people in early middle ages made their homes carving the rocks. The scene while driving and approaching them looks surreal.
Ortahisar is more difficult to climb, as the staircases are steeper and there're many sharp and low ceilings turns inside the rock - beware you must be in good physical and mobility condition to do that.
Once up, you'll be rewarded with fantastic views of the surrounding area.
Ortahisar is not included in the Cappadocia Pass, but entry fee is very cheap and worth it

Climbing up the castle stairs was a nice experience. There's a coffee shop right beneath it & the owner is super sweet. Loved his service & overall vibe of the place.

Such history to be seen. It's amazing how these castles still exist. More amazing is how people actually lived their lives in these castles. There is a lot of walking to be done. Mostly on cobblestone walkways. Also, there are a lot of steps with no railings. So be careful. A must see when visiting this area!

Amazing view from distance !! However, climbing it is not really worth it since there are not really good views and you cannot climb to the very top. Its closed.
