It was 3.3 miles total, so a little over a mile to get one way....Took me and the pup about 30 mins to get down to the water, and about an hour to hike back up. Took plenty of shade breaks on the way out, its about 15-20 degree incline and about 78 degrees out in mid September.... The water was gorgeous and we got in and got nice n cool before the hike out

Found this hike on our way to the American River Resort. Nice little hike down to the river with good views and a great spot to cool off before heading back.

An excellent hike! The rivers are flowing strong at the end of October, and it was nice to dip my toes in the cold water. It's incredibly quiet until you reach the bottom and hear the river - I liked how peaceful it was. Hiking back up will take some energy, so save some water and energy if you're not an avid/fit hiker. Terrain is typical for the area, somewhat dry, but you are walking between trees the whole way down. The parking lot has room for ~6 cars and rarely fills up. It took 2 hours to hike down, spend 20 minutes to admire the river, and hike slowly up with a pulled muscle.

Nice trail. No joke about being steep. I didn't have time that morning to make it to the river. Yet an enjoyable hike for this fat guy.

Nice short hike, but 800+ feet of vertical elevation gain on the way back is no joke!

Super steep, and not a good hike for kids or out-of-shape hikers. Nothing much at the bottom except a sea of poison oak. No easy river access.

Nice hike, beautiful views of the river to relax by, just be ready to sweat coming back up 😅 also don't forget the bug spray 🦟

To the river and back! Guaranteed to remind you of your lungs, heart and ability to sweat. Good trail manners and respect for the water at the bottom and everyone will have a good time.
**Please be cognizant of the impacts of heat and the work it takes to get out of this canyon!!!

Steep trail to and from the river, but not a long trail and shaded mostly. At the bottom I watched folks going white water rafting

860' descent to the river, over 1.1 miles. You do the math. If you have bad knees, don't do it. Otherwise, take your time coming back up and you'll be fine. Bring water or a filter to refill at the river.

There are two trails. One dead ends the other goes all the way to River. If you are not fit I don't suggest attempting this trail. As it's all down hill and then steep incline back to the car. I am pretty fit but that took a toll on me. But won't stop me from going again. Lots of trails , wildlife, and just watch out for fleas ticks and of course snakes. But the trail is well pathed away from the brush but doesn't stop creatures from crossing over the bushes right into your pathway. Best thing is be prepared with water and medical supplies just in case.

Wild yet close to town but steep. Beautiful rapids at the river but not a good spot for swimming

This is not an easy trail. 1.25 miles and 800' down and up.

This trail goes down to the American River. It is open and easy to follow. It is a good workout but be prepared with water.

Some inclined patches but a walking stick helps. Very quiet and still with no people around especially during the morning.

Steep hike with lots of rocks in the begining. Good workout and beautiful view of the river when you get to the bottom.
