Old South Charm and Elegance

I am torn about posting this review, as I want to share my exceptional experience, yet I don’t want to “give up my secret” to an amazing find. The Lookaway Inn is an absolute gem of a property.

As a well-travelled person with over 70 years of experience around the globe, I must say that this is truly one of the top accommodations I have ever had the pleasure of visiting.

From the moment you arrive, its Southern charm envelops you and welcomes you to a truly unique experience. Although the facility could easily be mistaken as a set from “Gone With The Wind”, the modern amenities and furnishings provide every possible comfort for today’s traveler.

John, the host, and the entire staff provide an unforgettable experience and, if you’re lucky enough to pay a return visit, he remembers your name as well as your personal preferences of location, food and beverages.

This rare combination of ambiance, service, elegance, and affordability make the Lookaway Inn a most treasured destination for any traveler.

Absolutely beautiful accommodations! So relaxing and quiet! John and Mary are the ultimate hosts. Breakfast was delicious with cooked to order eggs. Great location.
Superb cleanliness. Will definitely stay here whenever we are in the area.

We enjoyed talking with the manager, John, he is very friendly. The room was clean, quiet and had a comfy bed. The 2nd floor is about 18 steps up so bear that in mind - no elevator. Being in a listed building from the 1900's with antique furniture and paintings presents a nostalgic atmosphere that is a pleasant change from cookie cutter hotel.

Honestly couldn’t be happier with The Lookaway Inn!! The couple that operates it are two of the nicest people I’ve ever met, and they strive to create an environment that feels like you’re staying at a friends house rather than a bed-and-breakfast. The interior decorations are not to be missed and breakfast is delicious.

Beautiful inn located just a few blocks from downtown North Augusta. My wife and I, along with our 10-year old daughter spent one night there on a business trip to the area. The house is all-around gorgeous, with a nice event center adjacent to it. Our room was huge compared to what you might expect in an older home. Breakfast was simple, but plentiful with eggs made to order. Loved the city rooms and front porch.

There are just times when a bed-and-breakfast beats out hotel chains and this is one such instance.
Perfect place for:
A wedding party
A reunion
Romantic weekend away
Couples retreat
We stayed here and I thought why would I be in a small box room in a chain versus this airy beautiful room in a quiet private inn central to great restaurants and amenities.
John whipped up some hot scrambled eggs to go with the full array of bagels, toast and more on the continental breakfast.
This place combines classy with fun- great for both guys and ladies and all ages. Terrific outdoor space with ample patio tables to hang out.
Recently opened- enclosed event space as well... highly recommend.

From an experienced traveler.

Stayed here to visit family in the area and loved it. We had driven by this house multiple times over the years and it was the perfect location for a relaxing weekend away. John and his wife were so friendly and helpful. The you lady that made our breakfast was very sweet. Will definitely stay here again should we need lodgings on a future visit. Give this grand old home a try - you won't be disappointed!

I was so surprised to find this gorgeous gem in Augusta. The room was spacious and clean, the grounds were beautiful, the breakfasts tasty. The owners John and Mary were lovely to work with. They were accommodating of our needs, responsive to our requests and John even offered us some tickets so we could watch the fireworks! We weren't able to go but we're pleasantly surprised that we were able to watch them from the veranda outside our room. Five stars! I will absolutely be back

This experience far exceeds what one might have at a hotel/ motel. It offers more privacy, is quieter and more peaceful, and the management could not be better on so many levels. And, it's beautiful! And our experience doesn't include the first class event hosting with an events center. We've stayed at Lookaway Inn on two occasions and certainly will again.

This is my wife and my second visit to Lookaway Inn and it has been another great experience! John is always available and helpful to accommodate our crazy schedule or anything else we need. The rooms are beautiful and well appointed and in great condition. The location is exceptional with easy access to downtown, the medical district, and North Augusta. This is our go to location in Augusta!

My husband and I just got back from an overnight at the Lookaway Inn. This was our third time visiting the area but our first stay here - we will be back to stay at the Lookaway Inn! The property is wonderful - it is beautifully decorated and very well maintained. The grounds are lovely - there are camellias growing around the property and everything is tagged with descriptions. The outdoor space to relax in was perfect. John & Mary are friendly and accommodating. We had a big dinner the night before so the continental breakfast was perfect - eggs cooked to order, yogurt, various breads/spreads, cereal, etc. Everything about our stay was top notch and we look forward to our next visit.

Beautiful estate outside and in. Period correct Antique furniture throughout hotel, each room has own bathroom and modern TV phoNe ect. Beautiful garden all overlooking N Augustas historical district. Ppl( Owners/ employees) are friendly and happy to accommodate visitors. Rooms are pretty cheap considering the rooms and furniture how clean it is and the location.

I will say that I believe there was one or two women of the night visiting with a few gentlemen callers both nights but there was no disturbing activity beyond that. Bring it's a hotel I guess that comes with it. Lol I kept singing here's your one chance fancy don't let me down, here's your one chance fancy don't let me down ..... Reba... 😂lmao but not so lmao🤭 lol...

I'll look forward to going back next time I'm away from home for sure

We went to a small reception in 'The Camellia Room.' Access to The Camellia Room was from outside, so I've never actually been in the Lookaway Inn. The food was good! We could have parked on the road, but didn't realize until we were told. They did have signs on the edge of the road - "Camellia Event Parking" but for someone unfamiliar to the area, we weren't sure if the signs were directing us to a parking area or not. There were 2 lanes of traffic going in each direction and it seemed weird to just stop along the road, because it was like we would have been stopping traffic. But I guess you could get off the road enough.

My wife and I recently spent a couple of nights at the Lookaway Inn while in the Augusta area and were thrilled with the experience. The Inn itself was great and our room was comfortable, quiet, and tastefully decorated. The service was also impeccable and the location is extremely convenient. I would highly recommend the Lookaway Inn to anyone visiting the area.

Excellent. This is a very beautiful bed and breakfast inn with excellent hosts, gorgeous rooms and an opulent step back in time. Their upkeep is impeccable for an historic building. The breakfast is wonderful, beds comfortable, rooms are roomy and well appointed, grounds are well kept and peaceful, a gem in the heart of North Augusta!! And for all that, the prices are super reasonable as well!

Attended a bridal shower today in the Camilla on the grounds of Lookout Inn. It was beautiful. There was plenty of room for the 8 or 9 large round tables used. The light coming through all the windows created a nice background for photos. I hope to enjoy more events at the gorgeous venue.

The Camilla is a great event place. Glad we were able to use it on 9 February 2024.
