So good. So So good! We always go to the one in Butner, but found this Durham location today. I got the fried fish and it was crispy on the outside and creamy inside. Just perfect. We love the Home Plate

It was my 1st time here and honestly my mouth was watering the whole time trying to figure what to choose.
I got :
Fried fish with mash potatoes with gravy.
Green Beans, mac and cheese, and delicious soft and crunchy hush puppies.
I can't wait to return 😩.
The people there are kind and will make you feel at home.
They are also quick with the jokes.
So be prepared for a great experience.

Nothing fancy, but dear lord it is one of the best around. Food is amazing and staff is even better. The pricing cannot be beat! An entree and two sides for $7-8, got you thinking this is some 1990s dinner pricing. And these portions are grandma portions. The kind of portion where you told grandma "I'm not hungry", but she loads up your plate anyways and you end up taking some home because there's just too much on the plate. A true gem in the area.

Food was amazing. Chicken was tender and falling off the bone. Mac and cheese on point and hushpuppies had just the right amount of sweetness. I also had blackeyed peas which were delicious. The staff was very accommodating and they had nice country charm. I felt welcomed and would definitely come back if I'm on this side of town.

The guys who work here are so sweet and polite! 5 stars for service.

Ordering a tiny challenge since the menu is not consistent. You’re better off coming inside, looking at the food display so you can choose your meat and two sides. Plus, you have a choice of a roll or hush puppies.

If you go through drive thru, you should already have an idea of what you want to order. The day I came, there were porkchops, fried fish, baked bbq chicken and fried chicken. Sides were various beans, deviled eggs, and other stuff I didn’t pay attention to (sorry!).

Dessert was banana pudding - $1.25. Can’t beat that! I can’t wait to return here.

Ps: the fish was not my favorite, as the texture was a little tougher than I expected. However, I came late afternoon so the fish may have been a later batch. I’m willing to try again.

The price, variety, and service make me want to return.

Home Plate is an excellent lunch or dinner choice. Just like the name states,it's like u are getting a plate from home. The servers are very friendly. I try to stop every time I'm in the area.

Don't get here often, but the food is always hot and always good. When you don't want to cook but want home cooked! Definitely with a visit

Great place to eat! Fish and chicken are always on point as well as the sides. Great prices, friendly staff and good food.

If you live in Durham, and haven't come to Home Plate you are wasting your life. I worked this area years ago and it was always a favorite. It's been at least 3 yrs since I was last here and they have not missed a beat. Pork chops and fish are the go to. 10 out of 10 you won't regret it and if you do......something is wrong with you.

If you are reading this, go eat here. 28 years in business, this place is a gem. Amazing food and warm people. I will go here every time I’m in Durham

Good food and friendly employees and clean. The prices are very reasonable as well. An all around great choice!

If you want good old southern cooking at a reasonable price this is the place to go. They offer daily specials plus plenty of sides. Comfortable seating inside, also has a drive-thru. I usually get the fish and a couple sides and everything is great. They're open for lunch and dinner so plenty of opportunities to eat. Must give it a try...

Update.
While I still recommend this place I do have to say, you should be careful about the fish. If it looks dark brown they probably haven't changed out their oil fryer grease recently and it has a different taste and tends to upset my stomach when I eat it. I still recommend this place overall though.

This is a great comfort food place. They have daily specials. Parking can be a problem at lunch and dinner time due to its high popularity with the locals. I've had their BBQ, country style steak, fish, chicken, everything I've tried has been really really good and I leave wanting to come back again. It's also great value. For about the same price as a fast food meal you get good home cooking.
Their service is fast as well. The only issue you may have is finding a parking spot. They do have seating inside but it fills up also at mealtimes. Nothing fancy just good comfort food at a great price.

We found this place by accident. What a wonderful find!!! Home cooked chicken, rice and veggies plus a fabulous peach cobbler for under $20 for the two of us. Highly recommended.

Best fish place I've found in North Carolina I'm hoping to find out they sell buckets of fried fish.

The best fish platter I have ever had. My wife said the county style steak was wonderful. Extra sides was very reasonable and the banana pudding was wonderful.
