Christine's is a wonderful gem on top of Brindlee Mountain. I go every saturday. I love it for several reasons. The german food is fantastic. The coffee is off the charts and the table talk is aiways fun. Oh and lets not forget the desserts.

Absolutely Delicious... Picked up a variety of to go sweets and they were outstanding. Irish cream torte, plum streusel, apple streusel and an apple pocket. Sons favorite was the apple pocket...mine was the plum streusel...or no.... the irish cream...I cant decide. My son enjoyed his chance to try out some self taught german with this super friendly lady. Cant wait to go back.

We visited Christine's German Bake Shop on Saturday after driving by and feeling enticed. I'm not sure how this bake shop wound up in rural north Alabama, but Christine's is the real deal!

Open only Wednesday - Saturday during the day, Christine serves up mostly baked goods. She does also offer some soups as well as wurst and currywurst! Be advised that you generally have to order ahead for any kind of bread or brotchen.

We sampled pretty much everything she had to offer in the late afternoon. Plum, cherry, and blueberry coffee cake as well as bienenstich (beesting cake). My mother, who grew up in the German ward of St. Louis and is from a German family, was overjoyed, as she was taken right back to her childhood. Perfectly crumbly, buttery crumb cakes with fresh fruits -- they were all delicious, but the plum was the best. I had a slice of bienenstich, which is a cake filled with vanilla custard/cream and topped with caramelized almonds. The cream was so mild and airy and paired perfectly with the crunchy, sweet almond topping.

The owner and baker -- who I can only presume is Christine -- was there and she spoke to us about her life in Germany and how she has been running her bakery here for 20 years (she started at around age 40, by the way!) She had a talent for being available when we needed her and hanging back when we wanted "us" time. She was a joy and we loved talking with her.

I'll absolutely order some bread in the future and make the drive out. It'll be great to see Christine again! If you're looking for a road trip out of Huntsville -- this is one not to miss.

Christines is a great family restaurant. I went with a friend for dessert. It was a cream tort, and light and delicious. I felt like I was at home. Christine was very nice.

Was not quite what I expected when we went in. If you are looking for something specific it is best to call ahead. They also only take check or cash.
