West Dam Recreation Area

Beautiful area to hang out with friends and family near the river. There's many areas to sit and grills on site. There's also a playground for children. The water is nice and warm with a safe section to swim and life vests got public use. There is a 5 dollar fee to enter. My first time here and I really enjoyed it.

Beautiful place to relax, bbq & swim in the water. The water is very clean.

Perfect to kayak or hike just right beside the dam. Gets crowded so you need to cone early or weekdays. Nice view of the dam. Beautiful sunset here. Picnic areas and trails to hike. My pictures were taken when the water was low.

Great for a picnic with the fam, cookouts, or swimming in the lake. Clean areas for setting up for the weekend, fishing areas, walking trails, bathrooms, dog friendly. Small entry fee for access the whole day but they take CCs.

Really Good place as a family beach holiday.
There is a entry fee 5$/person at the entrance.
Very nice barbeque places for 10$/day.
5$ parking fee for cars.
No prior barbeque place bookings are needed if you don't want any specific bench place.
Come prepared as this place does not have any water or food available.
This place have bathrooms but slightly dirty that is understandable.
Won't be able to get a cab from this place back into the city.

The parks are mostly closed during the time of writing this review, but there is an entrance open right as you go past the bridge coming from Georgia. Lake to swim as well. Well taken care of and picturesque! Took my dog out for a walk there. Make sure to bring plenty of water.

A beautiful park with adequate shade, picnic and swimming areas. Very well maintained. My pups and and I had a very nice day here.

$5 per car and worth every penny...pretty much had a private swimming beach for our family and am definitely coming back to check out the volleyball court and playground.

Had a F@m{!£¥} adventure that was wonderful.. We had a beach area of our own at first and it had a picnic table and grill right on the water front.. It was in the shade so that was a plus.. And just right up a lil trail was a playground structure that the kids could play on..

Nice number of beaches so they do not get crowded. We went on a weekday in the summer and there was hardly anyone there. Plenty of picnic tables, green space, and public grills for use! A nice number of tress for shade. There is a playground for the kiddos too and several clean restrooms.

Peaceful place. I really enjoyed the places to walk and soak in the sun. The kids really enjoyed playing on the little beach area too. If you want to get away, this is a great place to do it. Bring your own food and pay $5 for parking.

The area is gorgeous. Lots of private areas with grills, picnic tables and garbage cans. The beach areas are clean and nice to use. The bottom is clean and sandy and I didn't feel grossed out. I actually swam. The water was almost too warm but it was 94. I'd even take my dog to this area. Saw lots of fish....some friendly ducks and a double breastfed cormorant bird! It perched near us and dried off unconcerned about us. Great area.

Multiple beach’s in South Carolina and Georgia. Parking is only fee. $5.00 for the day. Friendly and helpful staff at the gate. Very well maintained with bathrooms.

Very well maintained mini paradise to spend the day with the family. Nice shaded tables with grills. Get there early and have a good time at the lake!

West dam swing hole is a must on a hot weekend or just to get out the House and take a dip or rip off your clothes "some" lol ...

Visited on July 4th so the area was at max capacity but the attendants were extremely helpful and kind. They didn’t accept cash, only cards. The largest shelter was adjacent to a large playground and rental fees included designated parking spaces near the shelter. Easy access to restrooms, volleyball court, picnic tables, and plenty of shade! Overall, great place for family fun!

Beautiful location with a few separate locations to explore. Bring your 2 legged kids or 4 legged fur babies. Enjoy swimming in the summertime.

This is one of my favorite places to just take a drive to and clear my head. It's just cool to sit in the shadow of such a massive and powerful structure. Not to mention that it has been featured in Hollywood blockbusters like The Hunger Games Series's first two movies. It's a humanizing experience to sit and stare up at a MILE LONG, 10 story (61m) tall, marvel of engineering while knowing that it is the only thing, albeit incredible, between you and the full force of the Savannah River.

It also has miles of walking trail, a park visitors center, clean, heated and cooled facilities, a fishing pier, a covered swing, shaded picnic tables, and a sizeable kids playground. Plus, it's always maybe 4-5 cars there at any given time on a week day, evening, and generally most weekends not during peak family outing hours. Even then, you might see a dozen cars.
