The Bull & Garland

My husband and I stayed at the inn for a weekend getaway and it was exactly what we needed. The rooms are decorated beautifully with a European country house feel. The beds were really comfortable and everything about the room made us able to relax and unwind. We ate at the pub both nights. Friday we enjoyed wood fired pizza outside while listening to music. We chatted with several people, locals and visitors, then sat around a fire before heading back to our room. Saturday we ate inside the pub. Again it felt like we were transported to a small European town. The dark wood and cozy seating areas along with the friendly staff made us want to hang out all night, which we did. We started at our table and had a delicious meal. The fish and chips were the best I ever had, and my husband had the steak which was cooked to perfection. After our dessert of sticky toffee pudding, highly recommended, we sat at the welcoming bar and had a couple drinks. We chatted with the owner and bartender about a few places we should visit in the area for hiking and antiquing which we checked out the next day. The weekend felt like a week and we returned home refreshed and planning our next visit.

My girlfriend and I stopped here after a bike ride on the Catskill Scenic Trail (which, incidentally, passes by right down the road from The Bull & Garland) and we had an absolutely wonderful time in this warm, old inn. First, the staff was incredibly friendly and they take great care of you. Second, the food was just out-of-this-world good. We had a scotch egg, fish pie, and bangers and mash - all great comfort foods, all excellent. The smokiness of the fish pie, the peppery sausage combined with the sweet brown gravy over mash and caramelized onions, all washed down with some nice craft beers. The third thing that made it a great time was the atmosphere. We ate at the bar, which we love to do, and their bar area is small but cozy. We met very nice people and had lots of laughs and good conversation. I often like to go to a place more than once before I give such a review, but I know I will be back here. I highly recommend it.

What a fabulous hidden gem!!! Wow! The coziest atmosphere. Fireplace! Warmth! Beautiful and kind Bartender . Amazing service. Real English Food..and great burgers. I cant wait to go back . I want to try the whole menu!!! And the chef/owner came out and talked with my Dad and Boyfriend after our meal. We left happy ,content and excited for our next visit.

Had some dinner here with family and friends while visiting the area. Such a cute place. I sat indoors by the cozy fireplace, perfect on a chilly rainy evening. The outdoor area looks incredible as well. Drinks in the twinkling pine grove must be amazing.

The staff were very welcoming and helpful in making food and drink recommendations. A great selection of local beer and cider to try as well as crafted cocktails. I would highly recommend the Maple Siracha wings and Pork Belly appetizers. I got the Fish and Chips (gotta try that at a British Pub) and it was delicious. I wish I had saved room for the Toffee Pudding. I’m going to have to come back real soon.

This pub is attached to a beautiful Bed and Breakfast. I was able to peek at some of the rooms. What an incredible place to get away and relax. I’m definitely going to stay here the next time I visit.

We went to the Bull and Garland last evening. The Waitress was wonderful! We had the fish and chips, the cod was cooked perfectly, and the fries were not over salted, and were fried just right. The tarter sauce was tasty. We enjoyed our meal and will be back to try some of the other selections. We also shared a desert, a cake with dates covered with a maple sauce and ice cream, cooked for us fresh. You have to wait a little while for it because it is cooked per order. It was wonderful!

Okay, so coming from a major city, I just expected a standard $15 burger. But this place was just fantastic. Definitely upper end food on top of a fantastic ambience. The restaurant just feels like it's been there for two centuries. It's worth a visit and I intend to stay the night sometime soon.

Great restaurant with very good food at excellent price point, especially considering what has been happening with rising costs and prices at other restaurants. Staff is great with wonderful atmosphere. Love the outside garden when weather permitting.

I can not believe that we just now discovered this gem in Hobart. It was difficult to select one entree from the menu as all looked so good. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner (from appetizer to entree to dessert). This English Pub is worth checking out ( The food is wonderful; the staff is excellent ; and the atmosphere is warm and friendly). Don't miss out on this unique dining experience !😋

The restaurant is a hidden gem in the Catskills. Make sure you make a reservation because you don’t want to miss out! Great vegetarian options and an impressive bar. It was the highlight of our trip visiting the towns and villages of the Catskills!

We love The Bull & Garland! We had dinner here in 2018 and knew that it would be the perfect spot for our rehearsal dinner and wedding welcome drinks the following year. Melissa, Oliver, and the staff were all extremely attentive and accommodating. We are so thrilled with how everything turned out and cannot wait for future visits!

Have had two meals here so far and both have been absolutely fantastic! Perfectly executed British pub fare, possibly the best pub fare I’ve had anywhere at any time. The space and owners are fantastic as well - could not more highly recommend for a Catskills meal.

Great place to eat in Hobart, NY. I had the ribs and scotch egg and both were fantastic. My companion had the lamb burger which she really enjoyed as well.

We were very surprised to find an authentic English pub in upstate New York and the Bull & garland did not disappoint! Fish pie was a very generous portion. The mashed potatoes were cooked to perfection and there were nice whole pieces of fish and shrimp. Very satisfying and enough for two when paired with a salad.

Love coming here! The food is extraordinary and the staff are friendly and helpful. The menu changes each season, so there is always something new to try along with old favorites.Try the pate, and save room for the maple sticky pudding for dessert!

The food the service everything was 5 star. Down to the appetizers and beer on top everything was great. If we come back here this is first on the list for dinner. So delicious

Incredible garden dining. Fab fresh fish & chips. Marvelously pure lump crab cakes. Authentic sauces. Best bread pudding in the Catskills with toffee maple syrup. Cocktails. Yes cocktails as well as English beers & French wines. In Hobart Book Village. Books & chips. Someone is watching over is.

These guys are great and the food was phenomenal.
Perhaps the best pork chop I've had in an eternity. Everything that came from the kitchen was fantastic.
Oliver was a smashing host.

Love this beautiful, well run pub-like restaurant. Whether seated in the bar area, at a table by the fireplace or at the bar, or the intimate dining room, dining here is thoroughly enjoyable. Food and service are great.

Pub is very cozy and warm. Very talented staff and the food is delicious. Great hidden gem in the small town of Hobart. Drink eat and stay! Prefect Catskills weekend getaway.

Food was amazing! The ambience was great, we had to sit in the bar as it was a Sunday night but it was cosy and warm, especially by the fireplace. Can't wait to go back!
