Such an amazing clinic! Our baby has cerebellar hypoplasia and Dr. Knighton was so knowledgeable and understanding about it. It’s a fear free vet, so I’m incredibly happy I don’t have to worry about my kitten being barked at or getting thrown into a cage. We were able to stay in the room with our kitty Tipsy for the entirety of our visit while the workers very gently administered her shots and gave her some love! Thank you so much for being a vet we can trust, please bring your pets here!!! :)

I've received wonderful pet care at VCA Shelden Animal Hospital since moving to Louisville in 2017. They have provided services for our many cats and dog. I have a lot of trust in Dr. Knighton. This week we had our dog spayed and I felt very confident leaving her in Dr Knighton's (and team's) care. Jade is always communicative and friendly as well - which is a great comfort. Highly recommend.

We recently adopted Dahlia, the sweetest girl in the world, and needed to find a Veterinarian to get her shots and plan ahead for her spay surgery, and boy did we stumble upon a gem! Dr. Dixon and Payton are both incredibly gentle, caring, and took time to talk about any and all concerns. They are true animal lovers! I’ve found Dahlia’s forever Doctor. I highly recommend VCA Sheldon animal hospital in Fern Creek!

Everyone here is amazing! They take time with your pet and are all about a positive experience. My puppy absolutely loves Dr. Dixon!
They have a care club plan also.
I would highly recommend this Vet office.

I moved my 120 pound English Mastiff to be seen at this vet clinic in Early 2019 after the vet she had seen her entire life (6 years) scared her to the point of constant anxiety at home and not acting like herself and not wanting to get into the car for trips to grandmas or the park. I loved the fact that they were certified fear-free and on our first visit, they didn't try to man-handle her to get her exam, they sat on the floor with treats to earn her trust. My girl had some serious urinary issues and Dr. Peckham was in for the long haul. After quite a bit of testing, blood work, urine cultures, etc., Dr. Peckham and Dr. Knighton came up with a treatment plan. Shortly after the execution of the treatment plan, my girl went into kidney failure and went downhill VERY quickly (which was a side effect of one of the drugs, but I took a risk to help her get better). Dr. Peckham was by my side the whole time, texting me asking how she was doing, giving advice of how to get her to eat, etc. When I told her of how she was having trouble breathing, she suggested I took her to a local hospital. She could have left it at that, but she called the hospital, told them of her case, contacted someone she knew that worked there, and kept tabs on my girl throughout the night. Unfortunately, her big heart couldn't keep up and she passed while staying overnight at the hospital. I drove out early that morning to pick her up from the hospital, and on the way home, I wanted to drop off some canned food and supplies that were no longer needed to the office. Katie quickly answered the phone as she was one of the main vet techs who helped us. She asked how she was doing and I told her of her passing. She met me in the parking lot to collect the items I brought with me and hugged me as I cried, and asked me if they had taken care of her after-care. The hospital cremation fees were very pricey, so we were going to take her home to bury her. Katie looked up the prices of cremation through them, and it just made sense to let them take care of her one last time. I wanted a ink print of her paw for a tattoo so I asked if they could do that before the cremation. Katie said they don't normally do that, so I offered to run up to Walmart to get an ink pad and get it really quick. Katie said they might have an ink pad in the office, if not they would go to Walmart and get one. Dr. Peckham, Katie, and Emily became family and I could not have asked for better ladies to take care of my baby girl. I am so grateful for the sincere care and love they had for their clients.

Our animals are always well taken care of here, certified fear free, which we love. Only drawback is they seem to be quite a bit more expensive than most other places, but given the care we receive, the convenient location and filing most expenses with our pet insurance, it is our preferred place for primary care.

I can not say enough nice things about Shelden Vet. All of the staff are wonderful and caring. They take the time at every visit to answer any questions that you may have. Dr. Peckham and Dr. Dixon are very caring and great at their jobs. Recently my 7 yr. old goldendoodle went from his regular weight of 70 lbs to 50 and kept losing until he was 43 lbs. Even though I know that he had to feel bad, he was still his lovable self. We spent a lot of time at Shelden Vet for a couple months trying to figure out what was wrong with Fozzie Bear. Every time we would go in, all of the staff would greet me and Fozzie by name and give Fozzie all kinds of attention, like he was a member of their own family. Unfortunately the time came when I knew I had to let Fozzie go. Dr. Peckham and the staff were there with me through this horrible time. Dr. Peckham and a few of the employees had tears in their eyes as they told Fozzie goodbye. Afterwards they allowed me to stay with Fozzie until I was ready to go. A few weeks later, I received a sympathy card in the mail from Shelden Vet and each and every staff member wrote something nice, it wasn't just a card with signatures, everyone took the time to write something special. Even though it's still hard for me to go into Shelden, I wouldn't dream of taking my animals anywhere else. Months after when I took another one of my animals into Shelden one of the staff members told me how she went home and told her boyfriend about Fozzie and what a sweet boy he was, she had tears in her eyes. This meant the world to me. I have never experienced the kind of compassion that Shelden Vet has for each and every animal they treat and their family members too.

This veterinary office is for sure one of the best in the city, if not THE best. The staff all genuinely care about your animals and treat them like they would their own. Same for the doctors, everyone there is incredibly friendly. We've taken our pets there for years now. When one of our pets' health suddenly began declining they did everything they could for us, and when our boy ultimately had to be put down, they were incredibly kind and caring towards us. On top of taking care of the cremation service for us, they got an imprint of his paw for us, and later sent us a sympathy card. They're a one of a kind type of doctor's office.

Dr.Shelden has been taking care of my family pets since I was 9 years old. We started seeing her in the mid-90’s and as I have become an adult she now takes care of my sweet boy,Teddy. My parents still see Dr.Shelden with their latest pet as well. Over the years I have recommended several clients to Dr.Shelden who have also come to see that she is one the best vets in our area. I could on with the compassionate care she’s shown as we’ve had to make quality of life decisions for our family pets, or how she literally saved our sweet boy, Frank, bringing him back to life from liver failure. Most recently it has been my 65 lb/10 year old Shepherd mix,Teddy. We undergo all preventive services offered by her clinic for Teddy. This really helped us to know that a cancer diagnoses was in the very early stages. Teddy successfully had two masses removed at the surgical vet, and Dr.Shelden stayed in touch with me to ensure he had appropriate pain medication, antibiotics, and follow up care. As always, Dr. Shelden took the time to address my concerns as a pet parent, and take care of Teddy. We just had a follow up this past Saturday, and I must say the clinic’s “Fear Free” approach is paying off. Teddy strolled in sniffed around, and was completely relaxed due to the combination of anxiety medications ahead of our visit and the new techniques taken by staff over the past few years. I drive out of my way past at least 5-7 other vets in the east end of Louisville to stay with Dr.Shelden- she is the best!

Dr Dixon truly made us feel at ease and was very informative. I couldn't have happened upon a better vet for our German Shepherd puppy. Dr Dixon happened to grow up with German Shepherds. We learned so much valuable information, a lot of which I didn't anticipate. He made sure we had ample to time to ask questions, was enthusiastic about his work (it is very evident this is his passion!), treated our pup, Bruno, like his very own. We were sent home with information that has truly been life changing on the home front (trainer recommendations, material to ensure we could choose a pet insurance plan that meets our needs). Our best friends adopted our pups brother. They took him to a different vet in their end of town. Well, I'm glad we went to Shelden Vet Care...they identified a rare worms issue that Bruno no doubt got from his mother before we got him. Our friends vet did not catch that for their pup. I informed them and they've since returned to request the appropriate tests and their pup was positive too, just as Dr Dixon suspected. Super friendly staff! We've since returned for multiple checkups, and each visit remains as wonderful/thorough as the first!

Wow. What an incredible veterinarian office. The "Fear Free" certification they have is no joke. Our 12 week old puppy is still behind on being socialized due to the pandemic, and I was worried that she wouldn't be cooperative. The technicians were very generous in rewarding her behavior and by the end of the appointment, there was no shaking, no nervousness. It was like they had come and stayed with us in our home for a week with how comfortable she was with them. Additionally, I'm grateful for the in-house "insurance" they offer. I use quotations around the word "insurance" because it's more of a payment plan to spread the costs of her vaccines, visits, and eventual spaying, but they outlined how it lets them cut overall costs for me as well. Frankly, I was a little suspicious about it going in, but the technician was very helpful in showing me how much a year's worth of appointments and treatments that a puppy SHOULD be getting would cost with and without the plan. Overall, I'm happy to drive the 20 minutes across the city to this vet because they really are great at what they do. Thank you Dr. Knight and the rest of the crew, looking forward to our next visit!

We just completed our first visit at Shelden. The staff was very pleasant. Our pet was doted over, loved on, and treated with a sweet gentleness. Her comfort and ease was their main concern. The vet tech was thorough and very knowledgeable. He did a great job! Dr. Dixon took his time with us and our pet. He listened well and answered all of our questions thoroughly, even working hard to anticipate ones we hadn't thought of yet. We were provided with informative printed materials and instructions regarding our pets treatment and care. Our first impression is that of a kind, informed, well organized, professional staff. We will definitely return.

Such an amazing clinic! We are new to the area and were looking for veterinary care for our young cat. Dr. Dixon and the staff at Shelden Veterinary Care made us feel right at home from the moment we walked in! The clinic is clean and pet friendly with plenty of treats, toys, and room to sit. They are extremely thorough with their care for the animals and kept us informed every step of the way. Dr. Dixon even made some great recommendations as to how I can better care for our cat, Rue! We are so thankful to have found such a great place to look after our fur baby!

Great Vet. They listen very closely to me and my partners concerns. The vet was on the ground snuggling my furry baby and treating him like the sweet prince he is <3 after seeing that I wouldn't have any less of the affection and care they provided my sweet furry baby.
My family has used this vet for years !! 10/10

I enjoy bringing my two dogs here. The receptionist are always friendly and willing to help. When I stop by for my dogs monthly scripts they are ready to pick up. This vet has been the friendliest and won our loyal service over by caring for the animals; not the money. Dr. Sheldon and Dr. Dixon are great at what they do by knowing the solution to problems, and communicating back to me in a way that I can understand. They take excellent care of our dogs and would highly reccomend this vet.
