Kings Creek Cemetery

Cool old cemetery in a quite section of raccoon creek state park. Read that there are 142 graves but hard to find that many with the growth. Oldest is James Leeper who died in 1810. Last one was James Cameron 1906. Several from the American Revolution, War of 1812, and Civil War.

So sad it isn't being kept up. There are Revolutionary war heroes here.

Really interesting cemetery, including Civil and Revolutionary War veterans. Also a few large families. Some headstones were too weathered to read but many could still be. If I remember correctly the oldest burial date was 1804 and most recent was 1906. A few memorials were modern replacements to presumably destroyed originals.

A lot of tombstones were knocked over and there were many down trees. I'm hoping the situation is a reflection of the timing of our visit (mid-March) and it is better cared for once warmer weather allows.

Following the signs/google maps directions was easy. Parking was okay, there's a small lot. Again there was a lot of mud and down trees but I expect that wouldn't normally be the case. The plots are in a lovely woods a very short walk down a maintained path from the parking area.

We regularly visit old cemeteries when traveling so we spent about 45 minutes here. We didn't notice any trails and the cemetery was surrounded by private properties. So if you're not really into old cemeteries, you will not find anything else to do and may spend less time.
