Riverview Cemetery

I’ve been coming to this cemetery for years to walk with family and visit. I have many relatives buried here, and am constantly stricken by the beauty of the place and its incredible views. It’s a great place to walk; paved with many different paths to choose from and beautiful graves to look at.
The grounds are well taken care of, but I noticed that a few graves could use a cleaning and some even needed some dirt filled in!

A beautiful building with great architecture.

Noone ever in the office. Items removed from Father's grave. Was told about restrictions but items removed did not fall under restrictions. Noticed other grave sites with similar items. Wish we had looked at other cemeteries
*Update, spoke with superintendent was told it was under her discretion as to what stays on graves. Main item was a painted bench with Father's plane on it. Was told a name plate can be ordered online instead of what was on it. Thought once a plot was purchased that property was the purchaser's to put items on. Even threw away live planted flowers.

Today marks the 25th anniversary of my daughter's untimely death. Last evening, my husband and I visited the cemetery to place flowers on her grave. We were shocked and saddened at the condition of this once beautiful cemetery. My father was buried here in 1973, also at a very young age. Riverview Cemetery was the most beautiful cemetery in the tri-state area, and remained such for a very long time. I was proud to bury my daughter there. Last night, I cried. I apologized to her that she was in such a horrid situation. The grass was over our ankles, and large dandelions were everywhere. Her beautiful dogwood tree was butchered last year, although my husband assures me it will come back in full glory.
I have my doubts. It's awful. The area beside her where a large pine tree had been cut down looked like an abandoned vacant lot. Going forward, we will take this into our own hands. But God help those poor folks buried there who don't have loved ones to care for their graves.

I don’t recommend having anyone buried here. My dad has been here for 11 years. Everything we put on his grave is tossed over the hill and we are told that nothing is allowed to be put on the grave sites.
