Lovely nature preserve to visit right off I-85 in Durham. There's the beaver marsh, complete with the obligatory beaver lodge and beavers, as well as the Ellerbe Creek flowing through the preserve. You would never guess that there is such a cool place so close to urbanity!

Super cool hidden gem in Durham. Beautiful wetlands with hiking trails tucked behind a rundown strip mall. I was skeptical of the directions, but the signs helped to reassure me when we got here.

This is a hidden gem. It is behind Campare and Harbor Freight, part of Ellerbe Creek Watershed preserve. It is an idyllic bit of forest, creek and marsh with a lot of wildlife. Today I saw two egrets, one heron, one goose and of course the beaver lodge.

Great place to view nature, hike and if you go there in late evening see beaver swimming around their lodge. Awesome birding too!
