Had my first cut at Rock Paper Scissors today by Abigail. She was such a joy to be around and delivered a phenomenal haircut that was exactly what I asked for. As a first time client she made me feel understood, comfortable, and appreciated. Our appointment went a little over time but my hair is pretty long and she gave me a perfect blow out so I was not put off by a slight up-charge for the extra time she had to spend especially since the prices were very fair to begin with. The salon itself has a fun and funky aesthetic, is well kept, and all the staff I interacted with were very kind. 10/10 recommend.

The salon is lovely, and Amy takes care of me every single time. She is so talented with those scissors, and really understands my hair texture and listens to my hair goals. I’ve gotten many compliments from strangers just walking around about my haircut.

Great cut & color! When I called to select the best stylist they asked good questions and booked me with Suzanne. She took the time to ask what I was looking for and then gave her opinion. She did a great cut for my naturally curly hair! It’s lighter layers and brought back the bounce. Great job and everyone there is very friendly.

I moved to Durham in 2014 and was in need of a stylist. That's when I found Rock Paper Scissors and my now long term stylist Amy! Amy is always ready to help me achieve my desired look, whether it's keeping things as is or making a drastic color/cut change. I've been blonde, red, dark and back again. She really knows her stuff and knows how to get things just right. I started bringing my husband along to get his hair cut during my color processing, which we turn into an excuse for a date by walking over for lunch or dinner in downtown Durham after our appointment. The salon is in a great location and has very nice atmosphere. They take online appointments and are great about sending reminders. Highly recommend this salon!

BEST. EXPERIENCE. EVER. Will definitely be coming back to R.P.S!! I got a full set of highlights and a cut for my birthday with Abigail and she absolutely ROCKED IT!!! My hair came out exactly how I had hoped and it is so soft and healthy. Plus she was so super friendly and just all around wonderful. Totally forgot that she wanted to do a before and after picture but we were chatting so much time flew by so fast. If I could give her more than five stars I would!!!! Thank you Abigail ♥

From my initial booking until my first appointment yesterday, the staff at RPS have been amazing. Kara took the time to listen and explain what they were doing and did an amazing job with my kinda wacky directions. My hair looks great!

I am completely satisfied- and so is my daughter, with Kara’s talent, giving life, shape and definition to my daughter’s curly hair! See for yourself! 😍 I would have left Kara a deserving tip, but I am genuinely struggling to meet-ends. 😭 Anyway, I did enjoy my visit to this salon. Everyone released nothing but good vibes into the atmosphere of the salon, and I felt welcomed. For example, the receptionist (was wearing light blue jeans with white stars decoration) offered me a seat so that I didn’t have to stand while Kara took care of my daughter. Great music also flooded the salon! 😊 I definitely recommend you check out this LGBTQIA friendly salon!

It was my first time getting a haircut at RPS salon. I had a cut done by Skyler and I love it! Im happy that she understood my wishes and the desired look. I have short hair and I really appreciated Skyler’s attention to details. Makes it a huge difference! I will be back and I would recommend RPS and Sklyer to anyone!

Rock Paper Scissors is my favorite salon in Durham! I have seen a few different stylists there over the past several years, and they’ve all been great. I want to send a special shout-out to Mashaal, who did my first-ever “curly cut” and my first-ever bangs today! She did an amazing job, and I love my new look. I’ve already booked my next appointment with her. Highly recommend.

Brooke took my hair from dirty blonde and damaged to a beautiful copper / strawberry blonde and made it so soft and refreshed! She took the time to learn about me and what colors I liked and didn't like. She also did a color and cut that I'll be able to manage with my current hair styling routine (which is incredibly minimal). She sent me home with an amazing product and she's the sweetest! Thanks so much Brooke, I'll be back in a few months for touchups!

Skylar is absolutely fantastic. I had gone to a different salon for a big cut (took off about 8-10 inches) and the person did a very sloppy job. My neighbor recommended Rock Paper Scissors and I set an appointment with Skylar.

She listened carefully to my concerns and she walked me through her ideas for how we could fix my haircut. She took her time with the cut and did an outstanding job.

As for the salon, I struggle with social anxiety and sometimes struggle in social settings. I felt very at home and welcomed from the moment I stepped through the door (which is also across the street from easy public parking).

Kara Rogers from Rock Paper Scissors Salon did the hair for the bridal party for my daughter's wedding. She was kind, gentle, attentive and a joy to be around and our hair looked beautiful! Mine lasted all night!! This never happens, people even asked me how my hair still looked good at the end of the night. She took my vision of what I'd like and made it happen, but better!!! Kara was awesome!

Mashaal is awesome 🥹 I got my haircut by them back in August and I’m getting another haircut this month. The grow out was very pleasant as I usually do not like how my hair grows out, possibly because the haircuts were not designed in a specific way for it to look good as it grows. I definitely recommend her!

Cute salon with good hair products. I am a visitor to town and was desperately in need of a hair color and cut. Skylar helped me out and did a fantastic job. A little pricey, but with natural and ethically sourced products as well as environmentally friendly recycling that they do in their business, it is worth the cost. It takes a community to grow a community!

Allie did a phenomenal and extremely thorough job on my full highlight session. She was an absolute blast to hang out with for several hours. HIGHLY highly recommend ♥

I've been looking for a stylist who knows how to give me a great pixie cut since I moved to NC in 2019. Finally, I have found her . . . Skyler is great. The salon is lovely and inviting and the staff welcoming and warm. I'm so thrilled!

My first cut from Skylar was wonderful! She was easy to talk to in discussion of my requests and confirming that all was as desired, but she also did not mind me having a "quiet" cut without needing to keep chit chat going. Thank you!

First time at RPS and I’ll be a repeat customer. I’ve never done a major cut to my hair so this was a new process for me but my stylist made me feel welcomed and also understood this was a big deal for me. I love my new haircut and I’ll totally recommend RPS to anyone looking for a salon.

I have had great haircuts (Barber Cuts) from Gavin over the past year or so. I tend to change up styles periodically, and Gavin never misses a beat. Definitely recommend.

Today i went in for a transformational cut with stylist Abigail- her upbeat, kindhearted, and overall extremely comforting demeanor made my hair journey much more exciting and way less anxiety inducing even though things like this can be a bit nerve wracking for some. I showed her inspiration pics for what i wanted my hair to look like and she patiently worked with me to figure out exactly what i wanted and after the service was over i was EXTREMELY satisfied. She did exactly what i hoped for and i left feeling so beautiful and so proud of my hair. Her work is her art and i cannot recommend her as a stylist more. Thank you Abigail!!
