It's a Southern Thing - Ellis Crossings

THIRD TIME IS A CHARM! And just like that I think I found my new favorite restaurant! We try something new every time. We tried catfish this time. It was outstanding along with everything else was outstanding!
UPDATE!! We went back Today and the service went from 2 to 5. Our server was Alana and she is top tier. We ordered different foods today. The hot yaki wings, the patty melt burger, Mac n cheese, side salad and kids chicken bites with fries. Food is still amazing! Love the atmosphere. This place is perfect!!
The food here is an absolute 10! Everything is well seasoned to perfection! We ordered the Honey Bourbon BBQ Wings (smoked) and I could have easily eaten them as the meal. The Steak burger with gravy, mashed potatoes and crispy Brussels sprouts. This was like a home cooked meal and grandma's house. The Jalapeno Fried Chicken sandwich with fries. This was classic delicious sandwich but not too much spice so if you have a low spice tolerance you can handle this. My ONLY complaint was that our server, CJ, kept getting missing. Now she is respectful but She was missing for so long I got concerned that something happened to her however the kitchen has a window and she was just standing there on her phone. I had to ask another server to ask her to please bring us the check and we still had to wait while we watched her on the phone. But even that couldn't lower rating. This place is a jewel!

What a great find! We went there for breakfast on a Sunday. The food and service were terrific! Highly recommended. One thing to note however, call for a reservation because the tables available for walk-ins fill up fast.

First time enjoying lunch here with my husband Chris which consisted of the B.L.A.T. with delicious crispy home fries and fresh fruit and a delicious grilled chicken sandwich with delicious home fries as well.
The Key Lime pie in the jar was so delicious and creamy that we forgot to share a picture of it.
It only means that we must come back soon for another one!

We have tried the downtown location and was happy to have one closer to home, we were greeted promptly by the Hostess and seated immediately. Our server Alannah was very friendly and attentive. I like the water that they bring to the table and leave it for you. I ordered the Wade's Pork nachos which were ok but I could have done without the cheddar cheese sauce as it got cold, it kinda congealed and not very appealing. My daughter ordered the burger on Texas toast but the toast became soggy so she only ate the top with her burger. My husband had the hamburger steak plate with Mashed potatoes and green beans. We were checked on several times by the server and a gentleman who appeared to be in management. We will be back to try other menu options.

Date night with the hubby. He has been craving fried catfish. This did not disappoint! The fish was crispy and well seasoned. It is served over red beans and rice. So good!

I enjoyed my experience at It’s a Southern Thing. I like that they leave a bottle of water at the table instead of having to have my glass refilled. I ordered the fried green tomatoes- they were incredible! Not greasy, a good amount of pimento cheese and the bacon jam on the side is a wonderfully complimentary flavor. Server was friendly and checked on us just enough. I look forward to going back again.

Great restaurant with a good atmosphere and a solid understanding of gluten free. While they don’t have a dedicated fryer, they have a gluten free menu that shows what is GF and what is GF but uses a shared fryer. I always appreciate a restaurant that understands GF. My meal was delicious!

This place is just awesome! Maybe a bit pricey comparatively, but you get what you pay for in really outstanding and engaged service with great food. I would call it "elevated southern". A nice mix of classics as well as playful twists on classics, with high quality ingredients. They serve brunch (breakfast items) for lunch every day of the week, which is really cool in this area. Sunday brunches are always so packs, so being able to do a chill Wednesday brunch is awesome. Love it!

Both service AND food was on point! I wasn’t ready to be hit with so much tantalizing flavors! This spot did not disappoint and has easily made it to my top five. If you haven’t yet been or have at least been curious or tempted, I recommend you to go. The fried green tomatoes were my absolute favorite. If you decide to get them, you’re welcome in advance ;)!

It's a southern thing is a whole vibe ! Endless mimosas right here in Durham & my cup was never empty . The food is delicious too!

Omg 10/10 definitely recommend! I love this place and will definitely return! The collards/smoked wings were awesome! As well as the shrimp and grits. Noel, Emily, and Nick were an awesome dream team. They made sure they answered every question and gave some of their recommendations. I've fell in love with this place and will definitely come back!!

One of our new favorite restaurants! The food was incredible. Seasoned perfectly, hot and fresh, speed of service was on point. Wonderful brunch options. We indulged in the Fried Waffle balls, which was a great spin to hushpuppies(my opinion) with the add sweetness from the syrup and honey butter, topped with the powdered sugar. We also had Fried Green Tomatoes which was scrumptious especially with the extra ranch even though it was supposed to be a dizzle lol per manager. So good. For our entrees, we had 2 orders of the smoked chicken wings that came with our choice of side-Fries, my daughter and her dad said it was really good. I had the blackened chicken quesadilla which was hot and fresh. Lastly for dessert we had Banana Pudding. So yummy. My only preference with that is fresh cookies for a crunchy texture on top. Let's talk about the outstanding service we received also🙌🏾. The guys at the establishment went above and beyond to accommodate us in surprising our daughter with seeing her Dad and it was her birthday. They allowed us to do the surprise and it was emotionally wonderful with their help. On top of the surprise they were very attentive with our food orders and drinks, which were awesome too. Overall I can't wait to visit again and check out the dinner menu and the friendly staff.

All I can say is the staff (EMILY, NOELLE, NICK, BRADEN, and LANA) is PHENOMENAL!!💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾. I really can’t decide if the customer service was better than the food or vice versus. They both screamed amazing! The shrimp and grits are delicious on another level. Definitely will be back. The Southern Hospitality and reasonably timed service won me over.

Food was great! Service was great! We were here for brunch and had chicken wings & collards and the smothered & covered (biscuits, sausage, sausage gravy, eggs, & potatoes). Large portions! I will be back!

Went there for my father's birthday. The food was excellent, everybody loved their order. It has a nice atmosphere, and the service was great. Our server was knowledgeable of the menu. The drinks were good also. I would definitely be back 🤌🏾

Noticed that there were people in the restaurant and realized they were open today. Turns out they were doing a soft opening. I have been so excited to visit and GOODNESS was it worth it. I got the buffalo chicken dip and the Pete’s loaf - both were every bit of amazing. The owner and the wait staff were so kind and friendly. Excited for the businesses’ future! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I've been waiting for this place to open for months and they finally have. The staff are all very friendly, the owner is around talking to customers, definitely a welcoming atmosphere. I had the Fried Catfish and it was excellent. They have 10 beers on tap, others in cans/bottles, a few wines and a large selection of whiskey and bourbon. I'll be making many return visits in the future.

Loved the ambiance, food was great, ample portions of food. loved the fried green tomatoes 🍅 and my pork chop sandwich. would come back for more. staff friendly and attentive!

My 2nd time having brunch at this location and it was excellent both times! Definitely worth a go on Sundays for unlimited mimosas! Make a reservation! Not as busy during the week; went on a Thursday around 11:45a and it was pretty slow. Fried Green Tomatoes are excellent, especially with addition of pimento cheese. The salmon cake dish was amazing and the spinach had just the right amount of garlic. Staff is incredibly friendly and attentive; definitely one of my go-to restaurants for brunch.

So excited to have this fantastic restaurant location open. The bourbon selection is awesome (and apparently will only expand), the food is gourmet comfort food and the mixed drinks are delicious and inspired!
