The trail was a little tough to find at first, but totally worth it when you do!

The Deer Brook trail starts just off route 73 behind the metal guardrail. It is close to the entrance of the Snow Goose Bed and Breakfast, and on the same side of the highway, to help for reference. We parked at one of the pull off areas (turn out) on the same side of route 73 as the entrances, going towards Keene. We then walked past the bed and breakfast entrance and found the trail. I think there was also another parking area on the side of the road in the opposite direction (towards 87). See the pictures below for the start of the trail.

Super scenic hike, about 1.7 miles one way, that follows the Deer Brook for most of the hike depending upon the route you choose during the first component. Not too long after the start of the hike the trail breaks into two possible routes. The High Water is on private driveways for a little bit, but best if you have dogs or if it recently rained. The other route (Deer Brook) crosses streams and has a lot of rock climbing until they join back together. My dog couldn’t do the wet rock climbing, so we turned back around and did the High Water connection, but if I go back without him I’ll take that route because the scenery was amazing. They both eventually meet back up in the woods and follow the Deer Brook again but the only rock climbing after that point is when you near the summit.

Along the trail it can be muddy at times, but they are building bridges to cross over those sections. There are lots of options to connect to other hikes such as Wolf Jaws, Roostercomb, and St. Hubert’s. There is also a little side hike to a waterfall (larger than all the little ones along the way), which was a super fun side trip. For most of the hike you hear the running water which makes it very peaceful (but wear and bring lots of bug spray).

At the summit the views are fantastic! Explore to see all the possibilities.

I went on a Friday mid-morning, and we only encountered 3 other people, so the hike is not as busy as others surrounding it. Made it a super dog friendly hike, and allows for time to explore others in the area.

I started up Deer Brook drive to small bridge on 1st right. Picked up trail there. Crystal clear water and tall evergreens abound!
