I went to CCS in the 90’s and had Mrs. Van Someren as my teacher for the 2 years I was enrolled. Today, as I was reflecting with a friend about how I cope and overcame my struggles with dyslexia, my turning point was those 2 years at CCS. Prior to CCS, I had lots of special teachers and programming that intended to help, but I kept falling further behind. At CCS, l was able to stay in the main classroom—full time, and had 1 main teacher, Mrs. Van Someren, who taught me in a way that made me feel like a regular student. Giving me extra time to learn and figure out on my own at times where that could help me best. When she was guiding me, she never made me feel incapable of learning. The small class size and structure of teaching at CCS is incredible. I could tell as a kid that I was catching up on my education and was enjoying the process of learning. Though my time at CCS was a while ago, I am confident that it is an amazing school still, because so many of the staff are the same now as when I was enrolled.
