I love this school. My son has been there since sixth grade and the experience has been great. There are always going to be bullies and rude kids who act up that is a given in my opinion. But, when it has happened it was handled. The teachers are amazing, they are dedicated to their work and the kids which is something you don't always see in schools. I like that they are getting more strict with dress code because this is a uniform school and too often people think it is optional rather than mandatory. I love portfolio conferences which teach organization, presenting, and public speaking. I also love community service it teaches kids to do good and not expect anything in return. All of my children will attend this school!!!

Hello!

I want to tell you a bit about my experience at Southern Wake Academy. I was a student there class of 2009, and I loved every minute of it! When I first started there I was a lost teenager. I was a former student at Cary High, and had lost hope for school and graduating. I had dropped out of high school in 2006. My mother enrolled me into this school and I loved that it was a smaller environment. When I came in I was a repeating sophomore because I dropped out. I completed my high school diploma in two years... where in a traditional school it would of taken me about three years to complete, their credit requirement was less than at Cary High. I also had option to take some courses online if I needed to.

One thing I will say is if you are focused and do what you are supposed to do there is no real reason to fail. Even the troubled students will be kept on track and checked when necessary. They will pull them aside and talk to them to see what the problem is and try to get you on the right track. If I ever felt uncomfortable by any situation, student or an issue with a teacher... I was able to speak to the advisor and get that situation straight.

While I attended I ended up getting pregnant my senior year. The teachers and staff made me feel comfortable. Mrs. Haynes, even took me aside and gave me advice as a mother on ways to handle my situation, if I needed something she would get it for me. She even provided me with snacks if I was feeling sick...she just showed me that she truly cared about me.... not like others school. Ms. Lameck spoke to all my teachers, and on the days I missed class I was able to collect all my assignments from her for all my classes and return them in by the due date so I wouldn't fail my courses. I was able to graduate on time!

There were a couple of bumpy moments but when you are surrounded by staff that truly care, and will take an initiative to help you as long as you are doing your part and are respectful it makes a difference. Til this day I keep in touch with some staff members. They truly made an impact on my life and I love them dearly! Great school. Small environment, well educated and caring people and clean!

Southern Wake Academy is a great school for students of all sorts. People don't judge you, and the teachers are really supportive. The day ends early and that allows you more time for work, or play! I highly recommend this school for gifted and special needs students alike. I love this school.

I've been at SWA for four years and there is never a day that I regret coming here. I'm so thankful that I found this school because, in my opinion, this is much better than a regular high school with 2,000 plus students. I was pregnant twice during my high school year, and this school had bent over backwards to help me through the years. I'm blessed to have such loving and caring staff that have helped me through my rough times. These teachers actually care whether or not you pass! If I'm still in NC in the future, I will definitely be having my kids attend SWA for middle and high school :)

My children have been at SWA for three years. In our experience, SWA has always been on top of things as soon as they happen. The principal immediately communicates things that are going on. Between the emails, phone calls, Google classroom, and Facebook page, parents are very informed from teachers and other staff. Yes, uniforms are expensive, but we knew this going in and that to us far outways the issues that come with not having a uniform school. The Job Shadow, Community Service, and Portfolio Assessments are great aspects that prepare students to conduct themselves on interviews, public speaking, and social awareness while building confidence and positive self-esteem. These are the things that prepare them for the real world. The small class sizes are much better than the 30 - 40 size classes in most other schools. Every school has issues; no school is perfect. But this school as far as I know handles things to the best of their ability. We are very pleased with SWA and our children will be continuing until graduating high school.

I started at Soutern Wake Academy as a freshman coming out of homeschooling. The small classes are probably the best part about te school, you get so much one on one help and most of the teachers offer tutoring after school, and everytime I have asked a teacher, they have stayed after just with me for up to an hour and a half. I would especially like to point out the new teachers for the addition of 6th grade, Mr. Jeremy Thomas is one of the best and most fair teachers I have ever met, he is extremely good with kids.

Since the school is so small, any conflict is usually taken care of righ away by Mr. Dave Thomas, who does very well at his job. There are never ANY physical fights because it never gets to that point with how small the school is. That also brings me to another point, You won't get judged very much, and mostly everyone I know is very friendly, you know everyone and everyone knows you with about 180 students. But besides the social, the education is very good, especially math, the two math teachers Ms. Nasrallah and Ms. Lameck are amazing at teaching mth, they are two teachers I knw often stay after to tutor, and they will go over things as many times as needed to understand. Sports are also good but definitely improving, the best part is not needing to try out most of the time. This school includes everyone for sure.

Also, Southern Wake Academy, although it is no specifically a school for special needs, is a very good school for any special needs child. The special need teacher's are very patient and kind an the program is very very good. Also, it is good for trouble teenagers because there is next to no drug use or fighting. I would reccommend this school to anyone.

I am a student at southern wake and my name is Katherine ______
Hello let me tell you a little bit about my time at Southern wake academy

I started back in 7th grade in the middle of year and I thought to myself "this is a new beginning and new start!" but then i said to myself "oh no here we go again."

The first day i got there (this was a transfer in the middle of the year by the way)... The first day i got there Mrs. Haynes greeted me and said here let me show you around and since i didn't have any classes in the other building (the highschool building) she only showed me around the middle school building...

So after all that happened I met up with all of my teachers (there were Mrs.Fox, Mr.Thomas, Mrs.Yelenic, & Ms.Carleton) and they got together in Ms. Lameck's old office and they told a little bit about southern wake academy and then i went to my first class.......

So the one thing that I LOVE about SWA is that Mr.Thomas the History teacher me and him devoloped a very good relationship and ever since last year he has and always will be my favorite and once i leave the middle school and go into high school at SWA I will deeply miss Mr. Thomas

Yes I still attend SWA and I will be graduating middle and highschool from southern wake academy and so far this there have been some ups and downs but its one of the most interesting years...

Well besides last years field trip that was the greatest field trip EVER we went to North Carolina Ocean studies and Fort Macon state park... It was a very great field trip

My second child is now at Southern Wake. Both children really vary in their strengths and learning styles and they have both really excelled. Amazing, dedicated and friendly staff.
