Maalaea Beach

A 6-mile stretch of beach perfect for viewing sunrise and sunset. The water is calm in the morning. It’s a great place to paddle board, canoe, swim, fish, or just relax in the sun. The Kihei Canoe Club has sunrise paddles for visitors on Tuesday and Thursday at 6:45am. There is a fishing pier near the canoe club that is an excellent place to view sea turtles. If you pass the fishing pier and head further East, you will probably see the sting rays swimming close to shore. Between December through February keep an eye out for whales. I had several sightings just walking on the beach. The canoe club says it’s common to see them within 100 feet when out paddling, Heading west there is a board walk leading to KeLia Pond. At the pond, you will see plenty of water foul including Hawaiian Stilt, Hawaiian Coor, ducks, and several shore birds. I recommend packing binoculars because there’s is so much to see at this beach. As far as beach combing, there is quite a bit of coral and rock. It’s not only illegal to take from the beaches in Hawaii, but it’s also local folklore that bad luck will follow you if you do. The sand is a light brown color with areas of black and gold sand near the Pond. As you head further west, you’ll notice the reef with decent opportunities for snorkeling. I noticed several species of crabs in that area.

Great, long expansive beach to walk, jog and swim. Parking along the road or at the Kealia Pond Refuge, which is a very small parking lot with no water or restrooms and the Maui Canoe Club.

Beautiful peaceful beach all to yourself. Bring an blanket and call it a day here!!!!!! Thank me later. No one around and views both ways!!! Must stop

Can not believe that I am standing here! In Maalaea Beach! It's just out of the world. I wish I will be here forever!

A wonderful place to watch the sunset. We came here a few nights during our stay. Seemed like mostly locals were there. Someone came out to blow the traditional conch horn.

Beautiful quiet beach with amazing sunset views and whale activity. Also right next to the coastal boardwalk for bird watchers

Spacious beach and ample parking.

Nice beach. A lot of locals. A her of cats by the entrance. Turtles,waves. What more do you need ?

Cool spot it’s where turtles come and lay their eggs, we saw several on the beach and slightly off shore feeding it was very neat.

Nice sand, great swimming, walking path!
