Formosa Bakery & Kitchen

This place is such a gem!!! I am so happy my husband and I found it. I love Taiwanese street food, and Formosa Bakery is one of my favorite places to get it in Boulder. The owner is very welcoming and kind. The menu has a variety of dishes, from noodles and dumplings to rice bowls and buns. Everything is made fresh and with quality ingredients. The bakery items remind me of my childhood. We had the pineapple bun, custard bun, and custard tarts. The most authentic Taiwanese bakery in Colorado. They also make Taiwanese cakes (order 24-48 hours in advance because the owner gets all the freshest local produce per cake). We will definitely be ordering a cake next time!

My go-to menu is the Taiwanese Street Food section. I also like the scallion pancakes, which are crispy and flaky, and the pork buns, which are soft and juicy. The portions are generous and the prices are reasonable. I always feel satisfied and happy.

If you are looking for a taste of Taiwan in Boulder, I highly recommend Formosa Bakery. It is a great place to enjoy authentic and delicious Taiwanese food.

First time here and everything was delicious. I simple cannot wait for another pineapple bun 🥰 We're vegetarian and there were several veggie options marked quite well on the menu, and the owner was very veggie conscious when we asked 😊 We also got mapo tofu and sesame vegetable cold noodle, and they were soo good! Seems very authentic, certainly DELICIOUS, and I'll 100% be back

For foodies up north looking for Taiwanese street food, Formosa Bakery and Take-Out Kitchen is certainly worth a try. They probably have the most varieties of Taiwanese street food in town, including fried bread stick, egg pancake, sticky rice with meat and mushroom, pork sung and onion green bread, buns, dumplings, sesame cold noodles, black bean sauce noodles, beef noodle soup, braised pork over rice, roast pork belly over rice, and much more. They even make Taiwan style cakes, another rarity. Not a fan of Taiwanese street food? They also have a full slate of American Chinese foods. Here are their crispy pancake with BBQ pork, onion green bun, taro fruit cake and chocolate fruit cake.

The egg tarts are just like mom’s, and the chiffon is PERFECT! As are the legit Taiwanese dishes; I’m from Taiwan, super picky about it, and literally just got back from a trip there so my taste buds are sharpened…

DEFINITELY get the braised pork rice. It’s better and more authentic than the versions at the commercialized Taiwanese restaurants in Boulder (which are still good but aren’t *grandma* good and it’s a significant difference)

Owner is the sweetest; she treated us like family! We ended up staying just to chat for a while, and the conversation was as nourishing as the food 💙

I just can't believe she is a one-woman show! She does all the taking orders, cooking, and packing. I find that sometimes she gets a bit overwhelmed when its busy.

She use to have the Formosa restaurant on the hill but they kicked her out because they used the land to build a hotel. It's a bit of a shame.

Nancy is the owner and she operates this fantastic establishment solo. She chooses the freshest ingredients she can get her hands on and prepares all her food with passion and time. More often than not, I just ask what she recommends and it has never failed me. The steamed buns, dumplings and sui mai are delectable. I’ve also tried the pork belly over rice, veggie tofu delight and shrimp fried rice, highly recommend! Don’t sleep on Formosa, everything is made to order with love and umami!

What a wonderful, authentic Taiwanese restaurant! As vegetarians, we loved the Mapo Tofu and the sesame cold noodle. We also had a pineapple bun and it was delicious! Super hard to find so make sure you use the address on Google. Nancy's food is amazing and you can taste the authenticity!

BEST PLACE TO EAT IN BOULDER. new location, food is still top notch! the bubble tea is made fresh, if you order the fruit ones it’s fresh fruit no powder! the chef only gets the highest quality and freshest ingredients, so you know you’re getting a healthy and delicious meal. and the prices are sooooo affordable too. if you get a chance to order from here, you won’t regret it.

The food at Formosa is fantastic! My group got mapo tofu and eggplant dishes and they were both delicious. My favorite part were the baked goods though! The chiffon cake was light and not too sweet and the Taro bun was one of the best I've ever had!

The restaurant is a little out of the way and doesn't have seating available, but the food is fantastic. I definitely recommend trying it out.

They make my favorite cake (taro fruit cake), and it is what I have been getting every year for the last few years. The cake is always delicious and moist and the same can be said about the taro filling. Everything made fresh down to the whip cream, and the mango flowers decorating the top of the cake were a delight. Thank you so much!

Highly recommend for take out or delivery. They make delicious homemade soup dumplings and lightly batter & fry the sesame chicken. Tasty vegetarian dishes on the menu as well like the green beans and eggplant.

Good prices and portion sizes - everything is made fresh to order.

The location for pickup can be a little tricky to find the first time, but once you see unit C you’re in the right place.

Hands down the best comfort food in Boulder. Nancy the chef is incredible. Her flavors are authentic, delicious, and borderline addicting. The Taro Breadrolls are out of this world. The pork dumplings are easily the best dumplings in Boulder. And to top it all Nancy is a sweetheart of a lady who is deeply passionate about the food she makes. She will happily and excitedly tell you all about the quality of her ingredients and the effort she goes to in creating authentic and delicious food. You can really feel the love she pours into her food. I CAN NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE ENOUGH!!!

My husband picked up a few items from here (dumplings, pancake wrap, sesame chicken) for dinner, and it was all great! You can tell that Nancy takes a lot of pride in what she’s doing, and she cooks with love. So glad we found this place — we will definitely be back soon!

AMAZING Taiwanese and Chinese food. Home cooked meals with restaurant level quality and flavor. This will easily become a once-a-week takeout order for us. They are OPEN permanently! Order online for pick up.

My husband and I ordered takeout from here today after looking for some legitimate Taiwanese food. Holy moly, it did not disappoint! The food was amazingly good and gave me such nostalgia for when I lived in Taiwan. Everything was served hot and tasted super fresh. Nancy is extremely sweet, kind, and communicative. She even called later to check in on how the food was! ♥ We highly recommend this kitchen!

Don’t let the look of this location deceive you. It may be a bit difficult to find off the beaten road, but this place is simply a jem. The mango smoothie was super fresh and delicious with a unique, creamy flavor.

This is a ghost kitchen setup so don't be deterred by the lack of signage or walking into what looks like a kitchen. The cook can be found in the back doing what she does best. Just walk in and find her.

She makes traditional Taiwanese and Chinese cuisine to-go or catered. She does a great job sourcing her ingredients, avoiding many processes sugars and flowers or dyes. Large selection of savory dishes and baked desserts.

The best place I’ve ever found for tasty and authentic Taiwanese food in CO. Both Chopped pork over rice and Pork chop rice are so good. They brought me back home. I’ll definitely come back to try more cuisine.

we absolutely love Formosa! it is real-deal delicious taiwanese food at a very reasonable price. the owner, Nancy, is incredibly friendly and open. she sources fresh ingredients daily and each dish is a very special, intentional combination of flavors. i especially love the vegetarian congee and the pineapple cookies!

heads up, Formosa is take-out only and you can order in-person but it is a bit hard to find -- the door is pretty non-descript in an alley of east pearl. don't give up, it's worth it!

Interesting place, a little bit hard to find as it's in a unit inside shared kitchen facility rather a store. Nice lady running the business. Part of their offering will be available at Ocean Pacific Markets (all three stores) start Oct 10, 2022. Liked the Pork belly rice the best. Crispy sticks are great. Eel rice also good.
