So great! What a view for the payoff!! This is a must in the park. If you are traveling with children or people with mobility issues rest assured they can do the trail.

The rock scramble at the top is tons of fun but easy to navigate. We saw deer on the way down and they were not scared of people at all. Be kind!

Great loop, super easy hike with our baby in tow. We didn’t scramble up to the top because of aforementioned baby, but the view was still beautiful! Connects to the AT if you want to extend your mileage.

The hike was so short and easy. It was at a moderate incline, but not too long. The rock scramble at the top was so fun and the views were breathtaking. The views are great all around even if you don't want to do the rock scramble.

October 27th. Fun, short hike with amazing views. Be sure to wear proper hiking shoes so you can climb the rocks to the top. This is a spot you don’t want to miss!

We visited on a Friday afternoon in late May 2023 (Memorial Day Weekend). There were still multiple parking spots available. The lot was quite large and held about 20 cars with handicap parking.

We did the trail counter clockwise which worked out fine for us. Big thing to remember is when coming back from the summit to turn left at the intersection. We had a couple hikers in our group go right instead.

The hike out and back was very short. The view was amazing! The trail around the rocks were well maintained and weren't difficult. We did decide to rock scramble up to the tippy top to get a better view. There are some decent paths up and down but nothing is official so you kind of had to analyze it on the spot. We climbed up mostly on the north facing side which wasn't bad. I think most people climb up from the south facing side as we saw some more established tails as we made our way down. I think we preferred the view looking north over the one looking south. You do NOT have to climb all the way up to get the amazing views. The view from the main trail is also breathtaking.

We did have 7 adults (30 yr olds) and 13, 11, 7 year old climbing over the rock scramble with us. We also had a 1 yr old in a backpack carrier. The climb wasn't too difficult for our 7 year old. I think they had more trouble over at Bearfence rock scramble than this one. The adult with baby backpack carrier did not go up the rock scramble. There were lots of paths to choose from to go up the rocks to the summit. Do watch out for spiders for those of you who don't like them. There were a many spider webs throughout the rocks.

This would be a great place to take beginner hikers who want to try out a rock scramble before taking them to trails like bearfence or old rag. We would totally do this trail again if we were passing through. We did not spend more than an hour here and that includes us climbing to the top and taking lots of pictures.

This hike was absolutely just what we needed before leaving Shenandoah Park. To me and my husband we consider this an easy hike, others that passed us was breathing heavy so it might be Moderate to some.

Rocks! Lots of them! There's 2 trails leading to here. The first one is incline and would take a while to reach the summit. The 2nd trail is about 1.5 miles walk from the parking lot and the summit is there. If you want to do the easier one, drive past the first that said Black Summit parking, and go to the second parking lot.

Been here many times. Easy walk from the parking area, follow either the fire road or Appalachian Trail to reach it. Its basically a big pile of rocks that you can climb up to the top of if you like offers great views, has Trayfoot mountain right in front of you.

Great short trail with big payoff, especially at sunset!

Amazing view from the rocks at the summit! Fairly easy trail about 180ft elevation change and around 1.2 miles depending on your path. You can climb on the rocks at the summit for better views but not for everyone.

Pretty easy hike at about 1 mile round-trip. The elevation gain isn't too bad either. Great views at the top. Add a rock scramble to get the best views.

It is a short & easy hike, ideal for watching the sunset or sunrise, but it’s a remarkable experience no matter what time of day you visit. This is one of the must do hikes of Shenandoah national park. The view at the summit is beautiful! Perfect for a fun short hike!!

Some say this is one of the easiest trails in Shenandoah, and it's just about correct. Nice little loop around Blackrock Summit. Touches some of the AT as well. The rocks are huge and plentiful.

Beautiful short hike, 1 mile round trip, or 1.6 with the added leg, with amazing views of Massanutten mountain and Harrisonburg/Elkton/Shenandoah Valley. The scree at the end is loose in many places, and sharp, so watch your step if you plan to rock hop up to the top of the pile.

Important to know the trail route! Nice loop circuit IF you know to turn LEFT at the intersection on the return from the summit. View from the top is fantastic. Definitely familiarize yourself with the trail map before you head up.

This may have been my favorite Shenandoah short hike. The trail is gradual and as a bonus you can rock scramble at the top. I thought this was very kid friendly. The bugs were not bad. Enjoy!

Beautiful view. I came up from the valley & a 4.5 mile hike and 2000 foot elevation gain but there is easy access from the Skyline Drive with a few 10ths of a mile hike and very little uphill elevation to overcome
