Bikes Bikes and more Bikes. Mt Airy Bicycles is a diamond in the rough for two wheel cycling afficionado. They literally gave more Bikes than any shop in the area, if not the entire state. Old Bikes, new Bikes, road, mountain, touring, recumbent , monocycle if it's got whees pedals and gears they've got it. Larry is a living legend and knows his stuff.. There's no substitute for experience, and that's exactly what Mt Airy Bikes delivers. They are all about riding and cycling because they live it every day. This isn't your boutique type shop. Expect to see tires, innertubes, and chin lube strewn around. And test rides are welcomed. Try finding a shop like this anywhere else. It's not going to happen. Mt Airy Bikes is practically always open, and the best part is they'll get you on on a Saturday afternoon to get you back on the road. Hands down, best place to live out your cycling fantasy. They service what they sell. Oh, and yes, they carry accessories and the parts you need or were not aware of. There is too much to list. Try it and see. Easy to find, great parking, and fair prices. Thanks.

This is long overdue...Larry helped me to restore my 2001 Waterford road bike last year. He coordinated with Waterford's shop in Wisconsin, shipped the frame to them, and built it back up when it was sent back, repainted and repaired. He made it easy. The shop is amazing and Larry and his team are straight-up and fun to work with. A++

Helped me fix a bad decision on a wheelset I bought that needed the hubs converted to fit. Fast service and very reasonable price compared to the corporate shops. Paul was knowledgeable, friendly and took the time to give me some tips and tricks on adjusting disc brakes that are new to me.

I got an amazing customized bike that definitely brought a lot of comments from people that are also riding the C&O canal trail.

I shipped my recumbent trike from Idaho to Washington DC for the face of America ride. The bike shop that disassembled my trike broke the barrel bolt for the carbon crankset. Larry was unable to get the part to fix my trike, so he made a part using one of his tools to fix my trike. Larry believes in thinking outside of the box and at times seems like a magician getting things up and running. If it was not for Larry I would have flown across the United States for nothing. Thank you very much Larry for all you do for us!

Super sweet collection of bikes. Best place in the region to get cool stuff like folders and tandems!

Larry and his team have provided me with incredible service over the last several years. They repaired and delivered my two much-loved Greenspeed trikes during the height of the pandemic when most bike stores were closed or had no parts. I can't even begin to express how much getting out for a ride each day lifted my spirits during these challenging times. Their efforts, skill, and thoughtfulness are greatly appreciated! Highly recommended!

This place is a crown jewel of cycling history with encyclopedic amounts of knowledge on all things mechanical that relate to bikes, trikes, recumbents, etc... DO NOT skip this shop if you are in the area and let them know that the BikeLaw RAAM team recommended you.

Picked up a new old stock Cannondale road bike here, and the experience was stellar. I’ve had good experiences with other local shops, but never with attention to details like Mt. Airy bikes gave. Larry and his crew are expert and genuinely want you to set you up on a bike you’ll love for years instead of a few rides. Tell them what you want out your rides and they’ll match you up with something great.

I had a great experience buying a mountain bike. If you want a used bike this is the best place I've found in the region. The selection is almost overwhelming. Owner Larry and technician Paul were top notch and clearly love their work. Why buy new when there are so many great rides looking for a new home?

Wow, what a great shop and great people. Very helpful. Larry spent close to 4 hours with us helping us choose a tandem.

During the pandemic, they went out of their way to find time to work on my bike where other shops turned me away or said I would have to wait weeks or months for such a large job. They did a complete frame swap - moving all components from one frame to another. They honored their work and made small adjustments over the following weeks for no extra charge. Yea, they don't like to keep bikes overnight because of lack of space. They have been that way for decades at both their shops. But, for 35 years, I have always gotten fast and reliable service. Not always with a smile, but professional and to the point, because they are busy. But, they get the job done, done fast, and done right.

I’ve been going here for years now. The atmosphere is very relaxing . Larry and John have always been friendly, helpful , and both of them are full of knowledge and share it freely . They have so many bikes in this place that it’s like a candy store of bicycles and parts new and used if you need them. The service is done quickly and reliably.I highly recommend that if you are looking for dependable, reliable bike shop that you give them a chance. You can tell them Fat Tire Bike Dave sent you!

Other shops were talking about a three month wait for a suitable bike. Larry had three plausible bikes for me when I showed up, one of which I went home with. He really understands specialized needs and seems to have the inventory to back up that understanding.

Larry and Paul were great. My wife and I drove to this store from Delaware. She had been looking for the right trike for a very long time. With her handicap she’s not a one size fits all customer. We had already tried Lancaster Recumbents and she traveled to Bicycle Man in upstate New York. Neither were able to accommodate her. If not for the lack of trying.

My Airy had just the right trike. They patiently took the time fit the trike and answer all sort of novice nuisance questions.
We are confident that this trike when completely outfitted will last her a very long time.
Thank You Larry and Paul, (and Beth), for your personalized and professional service.
Oh and for your restaurant suggestion. 😉

My wife and I stopped into the shop for some ideas on fixing our 15yr old bikes. Well it quickly became clear that It may be a better idea to buy some new ones. Larry and his staff were very helpful. They even gave me $200 on a trade in for my bike that only cost me $350 15yrs ago. They also tuned up my wife's old bike for free as part of the deal. For the people who think Larry is rude, you might not be getting his sense of humor. We thought he was funny and he turned out to be very knowledgeable and fair.
I recommend Mt. Airy Bicycle. Take some time to check it out. They will let you ride any bike in the shop and the sale was very low pressure. If you need a bike check out Mt. Airy Bicycle!

I had a minor calamity today when my bicycle came off a bike rack. The main damage was to the front wheel. Who do you turn to when you really need a hand in a hurry? Larry Black at Mount airy bicycle! The shop is expert at bicycle repairs and of course sales. Though busy at times, you can expect nothing but the best in quality service from this team. I highly recommend.

The staff was very nice and informative. Larry spent a lot of time with me being a neophyte in the recumbent trike world. I purchased a used Trident trike and very happy with it knowing that a shop like Mt Airy will provide superior service and maintenance.
