Proactive is a perfect place to learn defense shooting. They have very good classes with excellent instructors. I started with the Elite membership immediately. I have been at Proactive for 5 months now, and I am very happy. The best part is I have improved in every aspect of my skills. From safety to learning how to set up my EDC and duty belt. Great people and expert experience instructors!

I have been going to Proactive Defense since they started. Chris has been wonderful! I have dealt with many instructors there and all have been great. I took some time off going to the range, however I went there a few months ago with my family. I love how the ranges are set up. You have several different ones. Because of them I am very confident in my skills. In the past I had wanted to do 3 gun competition and Chris was very nice and said I could work on that. Unfortunately life got too busy, so I have not been able to do that dream yet. I highly recommend this range.

This is the best kept secret range in DFW. It is hard to find, but it is well worth it. How you get there is to follow all the signs to Quail Creek Gun Range. This range is actually above Quail Creek. When you get into the parking lot, look to the left, you will see some small buildings. There is a large metal cattle gate with Proactive Defense Gun Range signs. Find a parking spot and walk up the gravel drive to the top of the hill. They are open to the public and have some great defensive training programs.

I’ve been shooting with Chris and the the Proactive Defense staff for over 12 years. I was looking at the holiday schedule and just realized I should post a review. My wife, two daughters, and son in law also learned to shoot a full size 1911 out there and further honed their skills. One thing is to pick up a firearm and shoot but the opportunity to draw from concealed and fire multiple shots takes it to a new level. I took my first three pistol classes there and over the years I’ve been lucky to also train with many highly recognized schools. Proactive Defense’s classes are first rate and helped cement many skills that I still use today. If you see me out there say hello.

Best range in Texas hands down. Worth every penny of the $60 a month membership. Employees are awesome and friendly and knowledgeable. They actually trust you with your weapons unlike the Nazi facility next door. I've taken family and friends shooting here and everyone loved it. It's great to have a place where you can move around and practice handling and using your weapons (especially rifle/carbines). Sitting on a bench and slow firing 100 yards away is NOT training. That's zeroing. I'll never leave Proactive. Best Sunday for me is a morning at Proactive!

My husband and I have taken Level 1 & 2 classes as well as a personal training class. I was very nervous and still learning how to operate my gun. They were patient and informative, allowing me to run drills at my pace until I felt more comfortable and confident. I have enjoyed working with multiple different trainers!

Been training at PAD for over year and half and they are very user friendly and very calm and patient and welcoming with new shooters. And they are very safety aware. The night shooting on Thursday nights and ALL the classes they offer on the weekends are very challenging but not overwhelming due to the methodical and calm instruction given! They are very good at equipment recommendations as well. I highly recommend all levels of shooters give this range ( and membership) a try if you haven't already.

Chris and the instructors are great. If you carry, you are OBLIGATED to train properly and often. You can’t learn and practice safe and effective technique in typical shooting range only. Proactive Defense is the best training I’ve been a part of.

Great place for tactical training for pistol and/or rifle or for training you just can't do or get at an indoor range. Their classes are excellent. I always use Brad Tuttle as my instructor. He's an awesome instructor and teacher. Highly recommended this place 👍

Awesome place! I came here on a day off and was kindly greeted by gunny. Fun place to shoot if you want a change from paper targets. My first experience on the texas star was fun, shooting steel moving targets with a pistol. Even though I had experience with firearms, gunny gave me some tips which tightened up my shot group. Not a very big place but it's worth trying out. I will definitely be back.

Chris and his entire staff are hands down the best instructors around. This is not just a point and shoot (slowly) range like so many in the metroplex, but a range where all levels of shooters are welcome and able to practice a highly perishable skill. Classes are offered and definitely worth taking as they utilize a hands on, real world approach to using your firearm. I have seen first hand at other ranges where people are careless with gun safety and at Proactive Defense the instructors and even other shooters are always placing safety as a top priority.

If you are an experienced shooter and are looking for a place where you're given the freedom to run and gun, set up drills, and not have to worry about an idiot range officer looking over your shoulder, then Proactive Defense is the place for you. If you demonstrate that you're competent in handling a firearm, they trust you and give you the freedom to do what you want (within reason). Even if you're there to shoot a gun for the first time, the staff will help you and teach you properly. The staff is extremely friendly and will help you with whatever you need, from gun problems to how to properly shoot around barriers, they are AWESOME. They have steel poppers, dueling trees, barricades etc., you could set up your own 3-gun stage if you really wanted to. Every time I'm in DFW I try to make a trip out here, definitely worth the drive.

My wife and I did our LTC training here and they are top notch. All the instructors were amazing. Patient with a mind for safety first. My shooting improved drastically. My wife, who had never held a gun before, passed all of the qualifications with flying colors. I feel indebted to the entire staff.

My wife and I both took the Handgun Defense Level 1 class last weekend. The experience was most excellent; we both learned a lot (my wife is somewhat new to shooting, while I have shooting guns since I was very young with family and friends). Chris and Drew were the lead trainers for our class: professional, knowledgeable trainers with a wonderful demeanor. We’ll definitely be going back for more instruction and fun!

I served in the military and have been to several ranges. This was by far the best range I've experienced outside of the military. You are treated like an adult and as long as you follow the rules, you're trusted with the responsibility of handling your firearm as an adult. They have much better range areas where you can practice from the holster, rapid fire, and some basic tactical movements. My favorite part was the steel targets for the pistol range. You shoot them down and can pull the back up without having to make the range go cold. They are really great people who will help you if you simply ask without making you feel like an idiot or intimidated. The price is extremely fair and I see myself signing up as a member in the near future!!! Thank you Gunny and Victor for the excellent experience!

I shoot out here quite often, enough to become a member.

I have seen and met some very good shooters who will take time to help new shooters, experienced shooters, and everything in between.

They offer all sorts of classes by some very good instructors.

I highly recommend Proactive Defense.

I've been shooting in DFW for more than 6 years and I have never been to a range that is more welcoming than this one. They didn't know my background, training, experience, or shooting style but I literally walked out and was greeted by smiling faces who were open minded and willing to help me become a better shooter.

I don't leave many reviews but I feel more people should know about what Proactive Defense is offering to shooters. Tell these guys (and gals) what you want and they will set you up with skilled instructors who will tailor training to highlight your weaknesses.

I have blasted my fair share of paper targets and I was tired of the same old "grab a lane and keep the rapid fire to a minimum" routine... I got to shoot steel, I got to talk to and learn from a champion competition shooter, and I walked away with a better understanding of shooting technique. It's super fun too (but shooting is fun always).

GO TO THIS RANGE. You won't regret it

Shot there for the first time today. Very happy with the experience. The people were friendly and helpful and their rules were common sense geared toward safety. Can't wait to go back!! Best part is that I can shoot FMJ so my bulk purchases won't hide in the safe for as long.

These guys are excellent, safety-conscious and allow for draws and rapid fire, and any other safe drills you desire. They also offer good, competent private and group instruction. I know of no other such place anywhere near me so these guys will have my business as long as I live in this part of DFW.

Very friendly instructors. Gunny is just an awesome guy. He took my scared-to-death wife and made her into a shooter with confidence! Thanks Gunny. Don't hesitate to take some lessons and support our First Amendment!
