This trail is beautiful a Ranger at the entrance said it’s a 4 mile hike in total (down and back) On your way down its easy but on your way back you definitely feel like you need to stop to catch your breathe it’s not extremely intense. You could definitely do it but PLEASE BRING WATER! At the bottom you could rent a kayak or paddle board and go to Fannette Island. On my way down I saw 3 Bald Eagle nests, so you’ll definitely see some bald eagles there!

This weekend. We took a very beautiful hike to Lower Eagle Falls and the Viking Castle. Started out of the Emerald Bay Campground took the Rubicon Trail. Easy 1.7mi. hike with the castle, and even better, the falls. The trail is one of the prettiest with many eagles and Emerald Bay view along the way. Beautiful and easy trail.Happy hiking!

We checked in at Lester Beach at DL Bliss State Park. We paid $10, parked behind the kiosk after trying to park at the beach parking lot. We took the West Shore route towards Emerald Bay. It's a relatively easy hike down the gradual slope to Emerald Bay. We should've brought our bathing suits to take a dip. We didn't go to the Vikingsholm Castle. The climb back was a little more strenuous because it's back up the hill,, but the views are worth it.

Great trail that allows you to explore the emerald Bay Area and beyond. The Eagle Nest campground was already closed for the season when we were there end of September but there’s parking space next to the road and it’s not very far down to the start of the trail head. From this starting point it’s 1.3 miles to Vikingholm and a little over 7 miles to the lighthouse. The first part of the trail goes downhill all the way to the water and then stays at that level for a while (some up and down but nothing major). You start going uphill once you’ve passed emerald point and then it goes up for quite a long time until you get to the lighthouse. We didn’t go any further but Colawee Cove is another mile or so downhill from there. We did a there and back hike but it’s apparently possible to catch a shuttle from Colawee Cove back to Vikingsholm and then you could hike back up from there. It was a great hike overall with beautiful views of the bay and the lake plus it’s mostly on the shade so it doesn’t get too hot which is nice. Make sure to bring enough water however because there’s no facilities on long stretches of the trail

This is a great place to start your hike along the Rubicon Trail. Follow the hardball road to the trailhead. The hike to the light house is primarily uphill but it makes your return trip a little easier. The hike takes 3 - 4 hours depending on how often you have to stop and take photos. The views along the trail are simply spectacular.

Fun place to offroad, vast amount of trails to explore. I have 33s and had trouble my locked rear ended helped a lot. I suggest lockers or very least a witch to help you out. High lift jack can help also. Basic recovery hear and tools!

Always an adventure here. Each time we comes up the trail changed, not too drastically but its never the same. This past weekend, it opened up for day use only. No propane or campfire allowed but we were prepared. Had a great time with friends who came from LA with their 80 Landcruisers.

Beautiful, this is a must do hike. Don't miss it! Make sure to get there early as the parking can be hard to find. If the north parking is full, there is a little pull out on the side of the road a 1/2 mile south of the north entrance where you can access the trail. Trail leading to the Rubicon trail is a little steep, so make sure to grab a stick to use as a cane as you hike down. Bring your swimsuit, there are some nice spots to take a dip.

One of the most beautiful trails I have ever been on. Couldn’t help stopping frequently to take pictures and marvel at the surroundings beauty.

Day trip with my husband. Started out at DS Bliss State Park, hiked through the park. The trail goes through Emerald Bay State Park to the castle. Views are priceless. The rock formations along the trail are amazing. The chain link cables are their to protect you from falling off the cliffs. We were fortunate to watch a hot air balloon launch off the lake while hiking. Was an awesome experience to see. Wild life galore. Enjoyed this hike, & spending the day at the beach. Length of the trail 9.5 miles.

Beautiful hike, I wish we had known that it stops along the bay and you can go swimming! Also would NOT recommend taking a toddler on this walk without a carrier or stroller, we learned it the hard way.

The best hike I have ever been on. There are many places along the way to go swimming if you can deal with the cold water of Tahoe. Best to go in when it's hot and after you're exhausted.
