Been walking dogs here for years. We love Lon Hagler. There is a trail all the way around the reservoir. Mind there aren't any trash cans so you pack out pup waste. Gorgeous views, boat dock and ramp, beach access to the water. Assume it's a decent fishing spot but that's not my dealio. Saw a bald eagle for the first time in 5 years on the southwest side this summer. You'll see cranes, herons, geese, etc. too. You can walk dogs in the archery area - I prefer to do this late fall winter when nobody is there but there are plenty of fabulous sniff options, little obstacles to work, etc. There is also a dog area below the reservoir to the east with sniff zones, brush, hunting practice, etc. Tons of prairie dogs and (watch your footing) holes. It gets a tad mushy/muddy (the trail) in early spring but the area is lovely year round.

This is a great little lake for fishing. We used kayaks to paddle around the lake and look for good fishing spots. It's nice, quiet and not over crowded. There's a nice dock and a boat ramp. Ample spots along the beach for staionary fishing near the shore.

Love taking my pup here to run and play a bit during the cooler parts of the day. Usually not too crowded either! It’s incredibly peaceful to sit by the shore and skip rocks, read, or watch the sunset here :) When you’re walking near the water, keep an eye out for broken glass and other miscellaneous debris lodged in the sand.

2023 update: Shoreline fishing here is nice when the water levels are right, but you never know how high or low the reservoir is going to be. Recently it’s risen quite a bit, so it’s become much more of a populated fishing spot than usual this summer. The South entrance parking lot is barely above where the water comes up to!

Fantastic archery course! We went for my husband to teach our two grandson's archery - 1st lesson - we were so very pleased with the area, this will be a favorite!

This range is awesome! There are tons of obsticles to shoot around, under, and over. There are plenty of options to vary shooting distance up to 40 yards.
There is a small area for shooting past 40 yards (up to 60 yards, if I recall correctly), and also a broadhead pit. The bone decor is pretty awesome too.

Great little lake just outside of the city to expmature with a great mountain view. Kayaking and boats can be used without a pass or inspection. Small lake though, and can get crowded. Also, a sweet archery range and course with 3d targets and situational obsticals obstructions

I go here for the archery range. A big thanks to Big Thompson Bow Hunters for maintaining such an awesome archery range.

No on-site fee for the archery range but you are supposed to have a hunting/fishing license to access the State Wildlife Area where the range is located.

Great space. Beautiful setting. Awesome selection of targets and really well maintained. Managed by the Big Thompson Bowhunters and maintained by Dennis Hansen. If you're out there, you're likely to bump into him. He's an amazing man and his love and respect for archery and hunting is shown in the care and attention he gives the range.

There's a shelter with picnic tables - so go out for a picnic and make a day of it!

Myself, my son and my 4yr old granddaughter had the absolute best time today!
7/25/20. I’m visiting from Cleveland Ohio.
I’ve only shot once prior to coming today, and my 4 yr old granddaughter was nervous at first but learned quickly how to shoot a bow and arrow!!
Dennis was the nicest person, and so helpful and encouraging with us!!
We will be back!!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!❤❤🏹🏹🏹

This range has a great variety of shot angles and distances, its carries a laid back atmosphere, has lots of character, its quiet, has a broadhead range (don't bring your good blades, its a sand pit. Or bring your own block), close range tree-stand shots up to 60 yards, AND ITS FREE! By far the best free range I've been to on the front range.

This place is amazing. I has over 10 different courses. You can shoot from high blinds as well as ground level. There’s probably over 300 targets. The lake is also one of the lakes that is stocked with fish.

Always enjoy this place, they have a variety of targets to shoot at and keep the 2d critters on burlap fairly fresh as well. Variety of yardages on their walk through course, a range that has targets at 50, 60, and 76.5, and another halfway through the course that has 10, 20, 30, and 40.

Beautifully kept outdoor archery range free of charge and run by volunteers and supported by the community. There are a dozen or so hay bail style targets facing west and north.

I've been into archery for about 3 years and shoot a recurve bow. This range is such a gem to have nearby. It is free (though support us greatly appreciated for BTB , Big Thompson Bowhunters, who maintains the range and targets).
The range has 15 targets that form a "walking range", there is a broadhead pit, site-in range (10, 20, 30, 40, 50, and 60), and covered picnic area.
I usually go in the morning before work, I usually have the place to myself. And it is beautiful at that time of day.

Fun little range. They have little stands and things to make the shots more challenging. It took 3 of us probably an hour or so. My only problem was the weather, but it's colorado lol
