Hearth & Ash

My story begins last year with a large company in Pensacola. I hired them to install a soapstone wood burning stove with through the wall pipe followed by a stainless steel chimney. It was a total disaster including dropping and bending the stainless steel chimney pipe, denting and scratching my metal exterior and leaving a gap around the pipe allowing cold air and sunlight to come through the interior insert. Needless to say it did not meet code. They did removed all pipe after the owners of the company came and inspected the job. So that left me with a wood burning stove but no chimney. So after searching again I found a company in Mobile that states "he has been in business for 30 plus years." After paying an outrageous fee for a quote he came out the very next week, took the money and then didn't hear from him for 3 months. Finally, after 12 weeks I did receive a refund for the quote cost saying he could not obtain the right wall thimble extension. That did not make sense as I could find them for order or a field fabricated piece could be made on site if the exterior wall is thicker than the wall thimble will extend. With 30+ years of experience that should have been a no brainer.
I really wanted to use Hearth and Ash the first time but they require all money up front for material which was scary and family and friends advised not to trust paying for something you haven't received. All the other companies require 1/2 up front and the other half after completion. Thank goodness that was the case with the first company because refusing to pay the second half is what got the owners out to see the damage done and agreeing to remove all and void the contract.
I took a leap of faith and called Burt to do the job. He once again came out and gave me a very fair quote by email that was very professional and legal. I signed and paid for all material. I was able to use a Mastercard which did give me some security as well. Again, I received a professional statement showing how much I paid, what I was paying for, and labor cost that was remaining that would be paid after the job was completed.
He connected the stove this week and I am very impressed with his work, it is outstanding! It looks and works perfect.
Finally, I found someone who knows and cares about his work. And his material prices are spot on with his labor cost less then the big companies. If you worry about paying such a large fee upfront my advice is not to worry. I learnt the hard way by thinking the large companies knew what they were doing and paying half up front was the safest way to go. In this case I was wrong. I would caution people to avoid the big Pensacola and Mobile companies and trust Health and Ash.

After another company rescheduled me twice, called Hearth & Ash. They came the day I called. Got temporary fix for cap leak and schedule for permanent fix. Will update after permanent fix.

9/7 Installed new chimney cap. Easy quick install. Did a great job.

From the initial inspection to the final installation Hearth and Ash demonstrated a professional, quality service.
It was their thorough initial inspection of my Fireplace that determined the correct Electric Fireplace insert size. Going with a larger one was more fitting for our room and the size of our current fireplace and mantel.
The Modern Blaze insert we chose provides a very realistic wood burning fire. The remote control allows for a large selection of effects, from color, to flame height, movement, etc. And it has a heat mode that provides a variety of temps. The heat is more than adequate for my living room.
I would highly recommend Hearth and Ash.

They showed me and demonstrated some of the new gas logs for fireplaces, and sent me home with some brochures.
When we are ready to buy, will be happy to go back and use their service.

Small businesses like this are hard to come by. I have had a hard time finding anyone in the Mobile area to install a wood burning stove for my fireplace/chimney. Thanks to Hearth & Ash for making it happen!
