Super fun hiking adventure. About 2 1/2 hours round trip. Terrain ranged from a little flat ground walking to fairly slippery river crossings to swimming to steep up and down with a little rock scrambling. Experienced hikers won't find this terribly difficult but if you aren't used to uneven ground and large steps up and down, it is more challenging. Our guide, Allan, was great. He explained a lot about the local area, the trees, animals, etc. Very fun and friendly guy. He didn't speak much English but is learning and.... well, we aren't in the US so shouldn't expect it. My 30 year old Spanish classes allowed us to communicate just fine.
The area is beautiful (see pics). Blue water. Great landscape. Opportunities to jump from a couple rocks into deep pools and slide down a narrow shoot (with a good chance of water up the nose LOL). A small cave with little bats. The waterfall at the end is loud, powerful, and a great place to swim.
Very fun and worth the price: $30/adult, $25/kid.

Our group of 6 had an awesome adventure with our guide Chris. He shared a lot of information on nature, made sure everyone made it safely. Even took photos of us enjoying our day. Highly recommend and definitely ask for Chris.

La Leona Waterfall is definitely one of the most gorgeous waterfalls in Costa Rica. The water is a beautiful shade of blue due to the sulphur (learned from my guide) in it.

The hike is a good one that will really get the blood flowing. It is well shaded though which is a good thing. My guide Emmanuel was amazing; very kind, patient and knowledgeable. Thank you again Emmanuel for a wonderful experience! The water is so refreshing after all of the hiking. It's not an easy hike, but the reward is well worth it. I wish I could have stayed there all day.

I highly recommend this. Well worth the price. 5 out of 5!

Had an amazing time going to see La Leona Waterfall! ✨
We had a young man named Alex as our guide to get to the waterfall. He was very polite and knowledgeable on different aspects in nature which made the whole experience more interesting. The first day, unfortunately we caught rain and the current was too strong to access and the waterfall so we had to turn around. The team had no problem taking us back the next day without any charge. We obviously asked for Alex again and we finally got to the beautiful waterfall. Alex really let us swim and admire the waterfall. We proceeded to go back in the water and got to jump off a small rock. The whole experience was amazing!
Highly recommend seeing the fall, going with this compagny and especially going with Alex! 💯
FYI: if you have a vehicule, the parking is free and gated

Luis and Alex were our guide for the river rafting tour. They were a lot of fun and made sure we had a full adventure. They were playful and interested in where we were from. They both seemed to love the river and their home which in turn made us love it as well. I highly recommend this trip! We felt 100% safe and happy the whole time. Being from Oregon floating the river is not new to us but this was much better than anything we have experienced at home. Thank you Michael, Luis and Alex!

This was one of the best tours we’ve done anywhere. The hike was amazing, the guide (Harvey) was knowledgeable and very friendly. He took some great pictures of us. The waterfall is indescribable—the pictures simply cannot tell the story.

Very considerate and personable guide Alex and management Michel. They provided us with a dry bag for our belongings. We had our own transportation and arrived early and they accommodated us right away. Alex was our guide and assisted us with the difficult portions and gave us information along the trail. The lunch at the soda was very good and fresh. We would highly recommend this tour company. We booked it online the day before we wanted to go and had quick email response from the management.

This is the most spectacular water adventure we have ever taken! I felt safe every step of the way, both our guides Luis and Allen, where superb. They know this route inside and out and are ready to help you if you need it. It was a challenge, I’m 64 and my husband 66, in good physical shape and found it very doable. The trail is great, I wore good hard sole sandals and my husband wore his hiking boots and even swam with them with no problem. At our age, footwear is important at all time. Luis and Allen were both so entertaining, informative and polite. The falls are beautiful and the area is magical, we highly recommend this tour with this agency, it was easy to book, we just stopped by on our way through town. They aren’t pushy, they are just great in every way possible! Thank you for making our trip amazing!

Visited here in January, it was a great experience. We got to experience a beautiful Waterfall and a very challenging yet interesting hike. We also got to see a lot of Flora and Fauna Such as snakes, and had a great meal after. Our guide Josue was great and very helpful to me and my friend. Overall, the tour was incredibly affordable and I would recommend it to anyone visiting Costa Rica for the first time or if they’ve been here before.

This was the best day!! Jesus and Luis took great care of us on the trip to the waterfall and tubing. They were knowledgeable, safe, and fun! We had our 5 kids with us, ages 14-23 and all of them said this was the coolest thing they’d ever done!
I emailed the company last night at 8:30pm, asking if they had any availability coming up. We were given a choice of 3 different times THIS morning! I couldn’t believe how quickly they contacted me. And the price is fantastic, especially compared to some of the other places we looked at. We did hike/waterfall, tubing, and lunch for $65pp. It’s a steal!! And the lunch was DELICIOUS, get the chicken fajita and pineapple or passion fruit juice!!

We had an amazing time at the La Leona Waterfall. Definitely one of the highlights of our Costa Rica trip. Our guide for the hike to the waterfall was Harvey and he was phenomenal. He was very knowledgeable and super fun to be around. We also did the river tubing as well and had a blast. Harvey and Luis were awesome in keeping us safe and making sure we had a great time. We would definitely come back!

Juan was number one!! He was seriously the best guide to take us to La Leona Waterfall. I have two kids and my parents went with us as well. Some parts of the hike are steep and dangerous for kids, but Juan would guide and at times carry my youngest (8) around tricky parts. We kept a fast pace but with Juan’s guidance we made it safety there and back. Juan also has a lot of knowledge of the nature surrounding and pointed out some spectacular things along the hike.

Had an excellent time. Luis was a fantastic guide. Pointed out plants and animals on the trip to and from the falls. He has a great sense of humor my wife and I laughed through out the entire hike. He also took some great photos along the adventure and air dropped them to me at the end of the tour. Ask for him when you make reservations!

Super fun adventure (much more than just a hike) with incredible views. Definitely a must do, so glad we went!

We had an amazing tour led by our good friend Noel, but everyone who we met were very friendly.

Be prepared for climbing rocks, seeing lots of gorgeous nature and jumping in the crystal clear water.

Wear shoes and clothes you don't mind getting soaked and take a waterproof case for your phone (you can get one from the guides), and for too many amazing pics.

"How was the tour?" Acquacheta!

We loved the approximate 1.5 mile hike to and from this magnificent waterfall. Hike includes some climbing, wading into river shallows and actually swimming to get to waterfall location. Awesome!

I absolutely loved my hike to cascada La Leona. I live in CR and have seen many beautiful places, but this ranks very high. A real adventure! So many different things to experience on the way, almost (or maybe more) as fun as the actual waterfall. Manuel was a really great guide, super easy going. Totally worth checking out. Notes: Tevas are the best footwear. You’re traversing the river a lot and swimming at times. There’s quite a bit of climbing intertwined with easy hiking. If you’re completely out of shape take a pass.

Okay.. first off.. this place should have 100 five star reviews. Don’t let the lack of comments run you away from this hidden gem. We almost didn’t go because of it. However, the trek to the waterfall was full of beautiful stream crossings. The guide was great and they send you in very small groups so it’s essentially a private tour. The waterfall was spectacular and you can even cliff jump if you’d like. We saw bats, and those white face monkeys. Chop up wherever you’re going and just go here. - USA
